Done that...and drunken swingball too...and giant boxing gloves being worn by drunken adults is quite funny too!0 -
And it warmed up people coming in after the bells, or those going out to first foot.
Never heard of these. A NY tradition?
First footing is an old Scots tradition...also North East. Dark haired male should be first in the front door to "let in the New Year"...carrying coal, bread & whisky - to symbolise heat, food & life.
Churches often ring bells at midnight on New Years eve. Not sure of the origin though.0 -
Work as usual. I only post so someone feels sorry for me!
I'm a neonatal intensive care nurse and last year got an admission at 23:47. Wasn't very impressed as the doctor tootled off to enjoy his bucks fizz while I did a big sigh and got stuck in! :A aren't I? x0 -

I do feel sorry for you - but also very grateful as no doubt did the parents of that baby last New Year. My daughter spent 5 weeks on the intensive care unit after she was born and the neonatal intensive care nurses were fantastic.( I do not wish to remember some of the registrars).
Hope your New Year turns out OK though0 -
We get invites to go out but choose to stay in. We feel NYE is overrated anyway. In order to make it special for the children we cook a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and pull crackers.0

I'll be in my apartment, drinking wine and eating a takeaway. I might even be in bed before midnight - I'm defending my PhD thesis early in January and will need all my energy to study.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

I am also not a huge fan of New Year here in Blighty......best NY was in Bangkok dancing with loads of Thai people in Siam Square........happy times......._party_ this year we will probably do the same as most others with young nippers stay in munching on nice nibbles with fav tipples and a few good dvds and maybe even singstar if the mood takes us;)
Happy New year to you all:santa2:0 -
Pre-children we used to always go out and party. My how times change. With a 4 year old and a 1 year old we stay home now.
We've got parents in law and brother in law staying with us over the festive period, so we're planning to get the children to bed, then all have a lovely grown up dinner with lots of nice wine and champagne and then see the new year in together as a family. Really looking forward to it!
Plus it is our first new year in our new house up in Scotland so looking forward to see if the first footing tradition up here is still in practice or not.0 -
Like Wensday, I'll be at work. Am off Christmas Eve and Christmas Night though, so am not bothered, and am not a fan of New Year anyway. I do feel sorry for OH though, he'll be at home on his own minding the kids. Poor love.0
