New Years Eve here is a big deal with loads of people dressing up in fancy dress, we join in too and the atmosphere is fantastic.0

for the last few years we have been away and its been great
i booked travel lodge rooms for 2 nights arriving day before NYE and leaving NYD.
1st one cost us 10 pound a night and last years one 15 pounds a night.
both times we stayed at toddington and spent NYE at woburn safari park and then found a lovely little pub for a meal and drink before going back to TL to see in the new year.
last years one was a little sad for us as the day after new years day we had our cat put to sleep as she had a inoperable (sp) tumor.
i got alot of slating on here as i still went ahead with the trip despite knowing what her fate would be when we got back.
one of our mates stayed here with her and looked after her and her sister so she wasnt alone.
We wont be doing it this year as a few weeks ago we adopted a new cat and i dont think its fair to expect anyone to empty the litter tray.If You See Someone Without A Smile......Give Them One Of Yours0 -
This year is the first New Years Eve that we will have my ther half's children with us, so I'm not sure what we're going to do with them as they are 9 and 10 (nearly 11). I'm guessing there will be a bit of telly and games and I might get some fireworks (I work for a firework company!) for midnight.
I've never had kids around at NY before (other than when I was little) so reading with interest! I don't really like NYE much, has always ended up with me driving and everyone else very drunk at parties in the past, or holding a party at our house at home when I was younger which used to be fun with all the different generations!)

Hi!
We dont usually end up doing much, ive done the drunken thing, and to be honest not remembered much at all.... and ive had the parents over (and an arguement with my mom almost ruined the evening!) and now ive just decided to be boring and stop at home! We will probably do the same as last year, get a few dvds in/nice food/hot choccy/drinks etc and cuddle u together....and a few other things i wont mention on here! lol.
Its too expensive to go out, and thats if i can get hold of tickets etc so i dont thinks its worth the hassle now.
Xmas itself has always been a big thing for my family-not new year, so we'll be having our get togethers then!

We just stay home, have some nibbles and watch the telly - but its only me and my 2 (9 and 11) - i would goto bed, but my 2 jump at the chance to stay up late, so we have a family evening. NYD, i cook a roast lunch, then spend the afternoon taking down the xmas decs and cleaning!!!0

My OH is German and New Year is a big thing for him - so in order to stop him setting off fireworks randomly in the garden and complaining because noone else does  this year, we're going back to his parents for New Year.
My family don't do New Year. My dad will have a glass of Scotch and fall asleep by 9.30 pm and my mum will just fall asleep in front of the TV way before midnight and I'll be left stuck watching Jools Holland *shudder* knowing full well if I change the channel someone will wake up and yell at me to leave the TV alone.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
We also like to stay at home, manly because we dont like going out and leaving the kids, last year we planned to do the bbq thing but it started raining so i just cooked the food indoors.
We invite all our friends round some who come all night other who just pop in for half hour between visiting pubs family ect.
I put on a big buffet ask everyone to bring drinks or food, and we dont really party just chat watch tv together and if the mood takes us the karoke comes out at midnight!!
Its sort of a night in but with friend round.
Sounds like the best New Years I have. My friends are exactly like you - don't like to drag their kids out, so they invite all their firneds round (friends who don't mind taking their kids out and letting them stay up late). We'd all just chat, listen to music nad watch Tv.
The best bit though was after midnight there'd be a HUGE pot of home made soup, everyone got a mugfull with a slice of french bread nad butter. It was so nice to have "proper" food instead of party nibbles, which I tend to get a bit sick of after a while. And it warmed up people coming in after the bells, or those going out to first foot.
But I have to admit the best one I had was 6 of us playing board games at a friends house. I enjoy that far more than being at a pub/club!0 -
I like to watch the New Year celebrations on tv while quietly getting nissed as a pewt, I have a giggle at all the silly people standing round in the freezing cold while I'm lovely & toasty in my living room. I'm usually on my own as no-one else in the house can manage to stay up late enough these days.Winnings

Never heard of these. A NY tradition?
