what do ppl do for new year?

if you dont have a 'big family' whats a fun way to spend new year? ive always found new year a bit depressing as we never do much except stay in and we're only young. we dont like clubbing or drinking so wouldnt go down pub or anything. we dont have many friends as we just moved. its a bit boring staying in the house ourselves.

its just me and my boyfriend, my parents like to stay at home at new year and his dad will spend it with his partner.

any ideas?

  • well we have done different things each year, but last year it was just me, hubby & our daughter (who being only 2 at the time was in bed at about 8!) so we just played board games all night, had a few nibbles & a few drinks and watched the telly, i really enjoyed it (i like doing things like that though!)
Now im debt free i want to be fat free too!
  • I must admit we stay in on New Year's Eve and do jigsaw puzzles (Don't laugh!)
We do all our hellraising (well, the odd night at the village pub) in the run up to Christmas and on NYE make sure we've got good food and drink in and maybe a good film to watch too.
Even if we wanted to go out, we live in such a remote place that transport would be a nightmare so we're happy to stay in the warm and let everyone else freeze when they're finally kicked out of said pub!

  • I'm working this new years.

I think NY is usually a let down.

The last 2 I just went to my friends house, we played drinking games and at midnight all went in the street and were very silly.

Could you not invite some friends around and have a 'round the world new year' party like they do on eastenders? Every hour you have to celebrate which country is seeing in the new year, with different foods, drinks and costumes. Looks like a lot of fun!

My first New Years Eve with my BF we stayed in at his house as all his family were away. We got some pizzas and crips, choccy and a few drinks in. Watched some DVD's and stuffed our faces all night:T. At midnight we went and had a walk down to the local park and watched the firework display for a while then walked back, watched some more DVD's, stuffed our faces abit more then fell asleep. It was a really fun new years eve
  • Every year I say "next year I'm going to a nice dinner dance at a posh hotel, no more 'Little Britain' with my Dad whilst my Mum snores on the settee." Not managed it yet, my husband always seems to put himself down for a nightshift.

  • Depends where we are.

Usually we just get anyone that's about to come over for 'games night' - then we cosy up with loads of food, drink (doesn't have to be booze - hot chocolate, a big pot of tea or floating coffee works too :D), music/Jools Holland and play games and chat etc for hours.

Then at midnight we go outside with sparklers, saucepans and wooden spoons and see the new year in with lots of noise!

Usually crash out at about 4am (everyone stays over) and then take it easy the next day.

    It's fab!!

  • Nothing, and whats worse is that new years eve is my birthday yet I have never been in a pub or club on that night of the year, usually because I haven't got a babysitter.

Last year my girls went to their dads house and I was all on my own feeling abit depressed! I think I went to bed before 12, how sad!

It's just me. I used to live somewhere where there were a lot of people gathering in fancy dress. So I'd don a fancy dress and wander aimlessly round the streets and into pubs through one door, out through another. All alone, just looking at the outfits people had on.

Although the last 2 I didn't even bother with that as it was atrocious weather.

This year I've moved. So I expect I will be sat home, alone, online.
