ZingPowZing is a great believer in taking full responsibility for his own investments.
bowlhead has faith in a multi asset fund to outperform this individual in a SIPP over time
So we're going to put our respective approaches to the test on this thread.
Each with a notional £160k in a SIPP, tomorrow bowlhead will nominate his favourite fund, and I will nominate four individual stocks. 25% in each.
We'll see who fares better and on 16/08/2020, the loser pays £100 to the nominated charity of the winner.
No hindsight, no aftertiming.
In the unlikely event of the thread being forgotten, I'm sure somebody will resurrect it around the time of next year's A level results.

You need to nominate them tonight as the markets will have moved by tomorrow and I wouldn't want any accusations of being tricky with market timing.0

Noon tomorrow.
All prices verifiable on stocktwits or yahoo share price index.
I'll provide links if you need them.
Expect the same from bowlhead at noon.0 -

Strange you failed to see the point in this sort of exercise a couple of years ago. If I’d known a little slapping in the face with my glove would have brought you on board:rotfl: (seriously great Fan)0 -
Retired 1st July 2021.
This is not investment advice.
Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."0 -

For context, in the other thread today, the OP of that thread was an inexperienced investor with a freshly cash-transferred pension pot in a SIPP, seeking advice on SIPP allocations. They were looking for guidance on a medium growth portfolio for the 5-10 years before their sister would inherit it to to help support her kids. With Brexit concerns, and in declining physical health, they wondered "Should I find a short term interest paying account for 6-12 months or could you advise me on a balanced global portfolio of funds. ??"
ZPZ believed that rather than use a mixed asset fund (or funds), as suggested to the OP by others, they could simply buy four stocks and manage the SIPP themselves, which sounded daunting but would have more control, and had various imagined tax advantages.

This seems inappropriate guidance for anyone in that thread's OP's position.
Still, after noting that it's stupid and meaningless to measure strategies over one year and any result will be more by luck than judgement, I am happy for ZPZ to show us his stock picking skills for the benefit of a charity.0 -
The main markets are currently closed with closing prices known, except for US/Canada / Mexico / Brazil which will close shortly. Asia will have had a whole days trading before noon tomorrow and our most local markets of UK and Europe will be in the middle of a session. Pick your stocks on today's closing prices, which will not be subject to dispute. -bowlhead
Agreed, provided you nominate your fund also.

So I can see how this thread will go.
ZPZ posting all the time especially when his stocks do well, gleefully pointing out how he is 'winning'
Bowl will post his fund choice and likely never return to the thread until a year hence.0 -
