Whereas a child hit at 30 in a 30 is absolutely loving life...

The laws been the same since it was written exceed the limit and face prosecution.
Except highly highly highly unlikely to face anything for doing 31 in a 30. It's like saying you could be hit by a meteor if you step outside, but then you don't even need to step outside to run that risk.

If you search on most police websites you will see a chart showing the thresholds applied which is usually 10%+2 .
So if you are recorded as less than 35 in a 30 they won't prosecute and if by some chance they mistakenly send out a NIP just return it referring them to their own website.
I have spoken to numerous police officers over the years and they have confirmed this.

The tolerances vary depending on the police force. The offence is exceeding the posted limit so yes if you were unfortunate enough they could book you. That being said I have never heard of anyone getting booked by a radar gun after the event.
Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!

You get my point, they claim an extra 10mph over makes no difference in the event of a crash. Even though it’s common knowledge that the higher your speed, the more risk of death.

But good point, nobody wants to get hit tho:T

Unless the law has changed in the last 2 years or so then TooManyPoints has it right and I wouldn’t worry if I was you.

That is of course if you was only just over as you say, as in 31mph and not like “I’ll just be a second” that people in your way often say to you and 30mins later they’re still there ;)

Ah, you've met my friends then ?

…and I have personally seen a nip for 32mph which my friend got, ironically from the fixed camera on the same road

Which force was that, then? I’ll try and find out what their policy is (but see below).
The tolerances vary depending on the police force.

Of those forces where I have seen their policies published, all of them, without exception, say that they adhere to the guidance issued by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (Limit + 10% +2mph). I have heard reports of action being taken below that level but have never seen any at first hand.
I was in a discussion on pistonheads earlier and I have given up and come off there.

Yes, Pistonheads is a strange forum. Aside from the "speeding is cool" gang it is also frequented by one or two motoring solicitors whose answer to everything (incredible as it may seem) is to “employ a solicitor”. This even sometimes extends to engaging one to put forward “mitigation” for perfectly straightforward guilty pleas where the defendant would do better putting their fees towards his fine.

From what I’ve learned from a month being on pistonheads is that it’s centred around a culture of the older aged man (sorry for stereotyping) that cannot stand anyone that’s not in 100% agreement with them. Then god all mighty when they group up on you, you know about it. I’ve spent a solid 3 hours today replying with a rational approach yet it falls upon deaf ears. So eventually I found myself what appears to be a better bunch of people. Signed up to digitalspy to but still awaiting confirmation on my account.

Sorry for going off topic a bit here. Just had a right day of it from them :D

It was reported a few years ago that (I believe) North Wales were going to enforce limits without any 10%+2 allowance. Saying that I can't recall a case on Pepipoo below the guideline.
