    Agreed. It's actually quite shocking reading the landlord's attitude to all this. I really hope the tenants are clued up enough to start the ball rolling toward a prosecution against the landlord.

    OP, if you have an ounce of common sense I'd back away from this asap & end your involvement as you risk being drawn into some pretty serious legal trouble if the tenants do realise just how poorly your relative has come over in all this as a landlord & report him to the authorities.

    Truly shocking that someone with such a poor attitude toward the legal requirements he has toward tenants can be a landlord. This really is the stuff of nightmares. The damage they have caused is the least of his problems right now.

    This landlord is a rogue criminal landlord. He isn't doing the job properly. Do not have anything more to do with any of his properties you do not want to be drawn into his criminal activities. You do not want to be prosecuted with him.


    The cousin who is collecting the rent for him also needs to be warned to stop doing this because he could be in danger of being prosectuted by the local council/ councils for being an agent for a criminal landlord.



    This whole situation is the responsibility of the owner of the properties who is abroad and he is the one who needs to be left to sort it out and be prosecuted for his criminal activities.

    Surely this is an episode of "Bad Tenants, Rogue Landlords"?!!!
    I'm not necessarily blaming the tenants here - ten people in a 3bed house, paying cash for a property with only the laxest informal management, could well be perceived to carry certain implications as to the legalities around them being in the country in the first place. Especially given we're talking about an absentee landlord who is himself out of the country.

    "Right to Rent" has already been alluded to earlier in the thread, and that's the one that's REALLY going to hit the landlord hard.

    I'm guessing you haven't seen the program - it's about one or the other. In this case, definitely a rogue landlord taking advatage of the disadvantaged! :cry:

    At least a couple of times in the show it was the tenant sub letting to 10 others.

    There is something about this thread that just doesn't add up to me.

    New poster.
    Creates thread with a very unusual click bait scenario.
    Replies to comments quickly most new posters reply a few times or not at all.
    Seeks out other recent threads with potential new Landlords who will be abroad.
    Clearly has a fair bit of knowledge when it comes to property.

    Seems a bit fishy to me.
    When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.

    My family are involved in property investment.
    My only property is the one I occupy.
    I have only advised others to be cautious.

    I haven't checked their passports, but I expect they will all be Czech.
    As to who is classified as an 'occupier' and who is classified as a 'guest' staying at the house...?
