Hi I'm wandering if anyone can help me with my seemingly strange problem.
I'm taking my test soon but filling out online forms as though I have recently passed, to give me a more accurate quote.
I'm a 26yr old male, no criminal convictions, and looking for insurance on such cars as Fiestas, Punto's etc...
I'm using sites such as Moneysupermarket, GoCompare, and Autotrader.
If I'm entering an insurance group 1 car, a Suzuki Alto, 1 litre, I'm receiving a quote of £3150 that is with a driver with 9 years no claims as a named driver.
Now if I change the car to a 1.6 litre, Fiat Stilo, 16v, I get exactly the same quotes, from the same providers.
It seems to be the same few providers giving the same amounts over and over, with a lot saying they're unable to provide me with a quote.
It isn't the same on all cars though, if I up the engine size to over 2 litres then it's around 5000!
Surely this can't be right, I'm willing to pay around £2000, but this just seems excessive, and a little strange that a lot of cars are yielding the same result!

I think that the newer Suzuki Alto's are in Group 4 and the older ones are in Group 5. Input your details here to get the correct grouping:

OK phoned my insurance company up today to find out the reason my insurance has risen by 92% and its nothing to do with me or my car, its do with other swiftcover customers in my area claiming on their insurance, and the renewal price is the best price that they can offer me, they cant make it any cheaper. So i've already told them i wont be renewing with them and i'll be looking elsewhere. And i was correct in the 6years NCD, so it looks like i'm going to end up riding my push bike from july or using public transport.
Not due to the insurance cost but the fact that next month i have to find £210 for my car tax ontop of my car insurance so even if i pay monthly thats pretty much going to kill the money i had saved to pay for the insurance. THats life i guess.0 -
I need a cheap cheaper and cheapest temporary car insurance please suggest me one0

As Martin says premiums are much cheaper this time of year . I did a similar scan of all the comparison sites in July and the cheapest available was £395 for the cover I wanted. This Saturday, when I genuinely wanted the insurance, I got the same cover (with a lesser excess) for £255. Moreover, at present there is an offer of free rescue/recovery/Homestart when you take out car insurance with Prudential - it lasts until 31 December. As Prudential happened to be the cheapest premium anyway for me it was a real bargain getting free breakdown insurance for the first year. Prudential may be competitive for others. It is chance I am getting insurance in Nov, but as well as being cheaper this year renewals will be cheaper in future years.
Guys - whatever you do don't go to AXA. My premiums shot up by approximately £1k after we had our cars stolen (surprise surprise). I got a better quote after looking at confused.com and checking out gocompare. I found a decent policy that is around £60 a month with chaucer direct. The service I got from AXA was shocking and you can read about the whole debacle on my blog at notcockney.com
Further more I got charged £50 to cancel my policy. Unfortunately its in the Ts and Cs so if anyone is looking for car insurance make sure you check the fine print first0 -
But i heard that AXA is the good one in UK0

If you think Axa are bad try making a theft or fire claim with Chaucer0

My wife and I have a multi car insurance through Admiral. This is supposed to be cheaper, however after checking other insurance company quotes, we got a more competitive quote separately.0

Car insurance renewal just dropped through the door, now hearing the horror stories of huge increases this year I was quite surprised to see that it has only gone up by about £35. Obviously I'm still gonna shop around but before I do I wonder if I can get a bit of info.
Earlier this year when I was looking to renew my home insurance, I came across a thread where loads of people where saying stay away from any company where the policy is underwritten by BISL, seems that some people have had real nightmares with them. Just about every company I tried the policy was underwritten by BISL, anyway I actually found a very competitive policy from M&S which was underwritten by AXA (with Topcashback too).
So now it comes to Car insurance my 1st port of call was M&S, but they are underwritten by BISL. So are BISL as bad as everyone says? I have never made a claim on car insurance (16 years) or home insurance so have no experience when it comes to making a claim. I want the best value policy, not necessarily the cheapest, but neither can I afford the dearest so sometimes I will have to make compromises. However things that are important to me are good customer service and British call centres - do BISL fit this bill or can anyone recommend an insurance company that does, that won't break the bank?
Many thanks0 -
I recently received a letter through the post from Aviva, claiming that 10% of their clients paid £190 or less. I went on line entered my details i.e. Over 70 years old, driving for 50 years, 11 years no claims bonus, no accidents, no prosecutions, 3000 miles a year max, Audi A4 kept on drive, value approx £1000. Live in a quiet village.
Premim came through £793 then reduced to £623. What a waste of my time ! Excuse given " I might hit and damage a £100,000 car or building" Has anyone else had this experience or are paying £191 premium with Aviva. I would love to hear from you.
