It's that time of year again where I've had to renew my car insurance. I've sorted mine out and gone with swiftcover who beat my renewal quote by £100.
If anyone is interested I've paid £660.
I'm nearly 23 year old. I've got 4 years ncb. My car is Skoda Fabia vrs 05 (insurance group 9) (value under £4000).
I've put my Mam on the policy and that reduced it down by about £30.
It's not cheap but comparing that to the £1700 I paid for insurance for my first year of driving on an old micra I can at least stomach this.
All the best.
Mark
Your lucky. just had my renewal quote from swiftcover who i've been with since 2009, and my insurance last year was £272 with 5years ncd and this year its a whopping £522.98 with 5years ncd, thats a 91% increase, i've been looking around and the cheapest i can get is with aviva for £468 and with £30 off if i go through quidco i still think thats expensive.
I'm 36, i should have 6years ncd, car is worth £300 its a ford escort 1.8GTI 5 door, only do around 1200miles a year if that, i looked at the milage between MOTs 2009-2010.
bought it from my brother after my car a ford escort 1.6 started using double the fuel, think it was due to the MAF / Master air filter electric thing on the air pipe.0 -
About six weeks ago I insured my car through Direct Line. They asked for my proof of no claims so I posted them my last renewel notice, which was from 2007 (when I last owned a car). They are refusing to give me ANY no claims discount at all, despite me having the 9+ years required for maximum no claims and having been driving as a named driver on another policy since 2007.
They want an additional £325 (this is on a policy that was sold at £240) within 7 days or they will cancel the policy.
I've had a brief look round the internet and it appears that most insurance companies follow the same policy - if you're not insured for 2-3 years you lose all your NCD.
Does anyone know of an insurance company who will give me some, or all, of my NCD? If not, I might cry.0 -

already done all that and the best i can come up with was aviva at £468 - 30 if i go through quidco
forgot to mention, currently i'm unemployed, only use the car for job interviews, shopping and going to the jobcentre.
I've contacted swiftcover to ask why my renewal quote has risen by 92% waiting for a reply.0 -

Ok, i went to sainbury's site and did a car insurance quote, they have 2 comprehensive insurance Sainsbury's Car Insurance and Sainsbury's Premier Cover Car Insurance
my quote for both, 1st, £804.54 and premium £862.84, with an excess of £200, however switching the first to 3rd party fire and theft, it drops to £695.56, still way above my £522 quote by swiftcover, and even more than aviva £468 quote.0 -

OK well possibly you might retry Aviva. Perhaps you could add a named driver on the policy, preferably a close relative with good driving history? That will probably reduce it further, and, remember to remove the Legal Protection option which is cleverly automatically added, unless of course you really want it. I have found that Aviva gives different quotes depending on when you reuqest them.0 -
I can understand how, once they know about the points that could raise premiums in the future, or even refuse to pay a claim if you had not mentioned the points, but trying to catch money by you after the contract has ended because it is a shame. It's even worse if not mentioned "retrospective premiums is made in the contract. Thank you for the inspiration!0

finally got a reply to my question regarding my car insurance renewal price from swiftcover, but that still havent answered why has my insurance premium shot up by 91.5% when according to 3 of the price compare sites on tv at least have said between 30-35% increase in insurance costs.
only word i can think of is EXTORTION. Tomorrow I will be phoning them up and telling them what I think about their 91.5% increase on my insurance,
and where they can put it unless they review my insurance I will take my business elsewhere which also means when my nephew has his renewal next month he'll be taking his somewhere else to. I dont think his going to like paying another 91.5% ontop of the £1200 he was charged last year.
Surely car insurers can take into account a few factors, like 1 have you made a claim, 2 have you had any repairs done to your car THEY have had to pay for. cant think of anything else at the moment. RIP OF BRITAIN STRIKES AGAIN.Dear Mr Chambers
Thank you for your e-mail.
There has been a general increase in Insurance across the board. There are many factors which contribute to the price increase.
These are some of the causes:
- Injury claims compensation is increasing.
- Increasing medical costs.
- Fewer cars are repairable.
- Parts are more expensive.
