Phonebox Direct 3 customers - There may be a way for you to cancel your contracts
Hi all,
I'm new to this forum but not to the website and have been affected by Phonebox Direct's liquidation.
Anyway i had just took out a new 18mth free line rental via PBD with '3' on the Mix n Match 1100 tariff.....To cut a long story short if anybody has one of these contracts you may recall receiving a letter recently stating a change to the T's & C's referring to all calls being rounded up the the nearest minute and that this change is due to come into affect from the 11th December 2007. I've copied it in below:
From the 11th December, any call lasting 59 seconds or less will be rounded up to a minute. After the first minute, you'll get charged for each second, and each second only. So there's no need to cut your calls short, just take it easy and get your money's worth. This change won't affect any of the free stuff you get, like free voicemail. But if you've got any questions, the answers are all at three.co.uk/mix&matchbills'
10. Ending this agreement and Disconnection of 3 Services
Pay Monthly Customers
10.1 You may end this agreement in the following ways:
1. In certain circumstances under our Returns Policy. You may need to get in touch with 3 Customer Services to arrange Disconnection.
2. You can end the agreement during your Minimum Term (if you have one this will be stated in your Price Plan) by giving notice to 3 Customer Services at least 30 days before the date you want to end the agreement. However, you must pay us all the Charges you owe, plus any Cancellation Fee for your Price Plan (as set out in the Price Guide).
3. On 30 days' notice, outside the Minimum Term. You can end the agreement if your Price Plan does not contain a Minimum Term, or if you want to end the agreement at the end of your Minimum Term or any time after your Minimum Term has expired, provided you give notice to 3 Customer Services at least 30 days before the date you want to end the agreement. (A Cancellation Fee will not be charged.)
4. Within one month of a detrimental variation to your agreement. You can end the agreement within one month of us telling you about a variation to your agreement (which includes your Price Plan) which is likely to be of detriment to you. You must give written notice to 3 Customer Services within that month and your agreement will finish at the end of that month once we receive your notice. (A Cancellation Fee will not be charged.)
Option 4 is the one that applies as a possible get out clause
Basically my contract started on 26th October and i phoned 3 customer support last night and stated i wanted to cancel as this will have a detrimental affect on my calls. Notice how they say "which is likely to be of detriment to you"...Well in my case i stated that it will as i make a lot of short calls under a minute.
They will try and persuade you to stay and offer you a cheaper price for the same package but that for you to decide. I cancelled over the phone and was told that my contract will end on the 30th November 2007.
I think the above applies to all mix n match tariff users only, but if you remember getting a letter then give them a call.....Be polite but firm and stand your ground as you will be dealing with an off shore Call Centre and just keep repeating your contract cancellation rights (option 4 above) and they should cancel your contract

Thanks for that.
Just to advise people that this does NOT apply to Video & Talk & Text 700. I have checked. I know you have not said it does apply to V&T&T 700 but just to save people asking.0 -
How about 3's talk n text 700?0

Is it a mix n match tariff?
Only those are affected.0 -
There is more about this in the original thread:

Ahh thanks for that. Has anyone had any luck with getting 3 to sort them a deal after PBD collapsed? (apart from the mix.n.match people who get to cancel)0

No. Have tried but usual customer service "sorry but" stuff. Think I read something somewhere about being able to get something from month 9 though. Not there yet myself so not sure.Ahh thanks for that. Has anyone had any luck with getting 3 to sort them a deal after PBD collapsed? (apart from the mix.n.match people who get to cancel)0 -

you can lower your tariff after month nine, although, they make you go down one step a month or charge you £25 to drop right down to the lowest straight away.
It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt0 -

I can use the calculator on my CNM phone to work out best option!0 -

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: personally i'd pay the £25 and get it over and done with. going down in £5 increments is going to take months.
