Changes to 3 Mix & Match billing

Options
I've recently upgraded to Mix & Match 700 on the 3 network. I've received a letter today with a change to the billing for calls less than a minute.

'From the 11th December, any call lasting 59 seconds or less will be rounded up to a minute. After the first minute, you'll get charged for each second, and each second only. So there's no need to cut your calls short, just take it easy and get your money's worth. This change won't affect any of the free stuff you get, like free voicemail. But if you've got any questions, the answers are all at three.co.uk/mix&matchbills'

What a con, why should calls be rounded up? Funny how the letter is worded, personally I'd rather have voicemail minutes taken out of my bundle rather than having every short call rounded up.

How do other people feel about the changes?

  • What a suprise, the link to the pricing T&C's doesn't work on the 3 website. If I can I will cancel the contract. I've had so many problems since I upgraded, I'm on my 3rd replacement Nokia N95 and I was cut off for 4 days waiting for a replacement sim card to arrive.
  • I've just looked at my recent bill and approximately 50% of my calls are under 1 minute. I'm pretty certain the change will make a big difference to my remaining minutes and how quickly I use my inclusive bundle. Every short call will use 1 minute from my mix and match allowance.

This seems pretty similar to the recent change in Orange's T&C's where they are going to start charging for 07978 international calls.

Any feedback would be appreciated, I can't access the T&C's on the website I just get an error message, I don't think this is just a coincidence!

I would like to cancel the contract if I can because of the change in the T&C's.
  • I'm going to call tomorrow and cancel the contract

    4. Variations to your agreement or prices
    Pay Monthly Customers
4.1 We may vary any of the terms of your agreement, including our Price Plans, on the following basis:
    1. any updated Price Plans and new terms will be available on our website and on request to 3 Customer Services;
    2. if you are a Pay Monthly Customer, we will let you know at least one month in advance if we decide to:
      1. discontinue your Price Plan; or
      2. make any variations to your agreement which are likely to be of detriment to you; or
      3. increase the fixed periodic charges for your Price Plan (if applicable) by an amount which is more than the percentage increase in the Retail Prices Index Figure (or any future equivalent) in any twelve month period.
You can end the agreement for such variations as explained in Section 10. Subject to the above, you will not be able to end the agreement if such variation or increase:
    1. is due to changes to the law, government regulation or licence which affect us; or
    2. relates solely to Additional Services; or
    3. relates solely to Add-on(s) (if applicable to you).
In such circumstances you will not be able to end your agreement but you will be able to cancel the Add-on(s) by giving us 30 days' written notice; and

    10. Ending this agreement and Disconnection of 3 Services
    Pay Monthly Customers

    2. However, you must pay us all the Charges you owe, plus any Cancellation Fee for your Price Plan (as set out in the Price Guide).
    3. On 30 days' notice, outside the Minimum Term. You can end the agreement if your Price Plan does not contain a Minimum Term, or if you want to end the agreement at the end of your Minimum Term or any time after your Minimum Term has expired, provided you give notice to 3 Customer Services at least 30 days before the date you want to end the agreement. (A Cancellation Fee will not be charged.)
    4. Within one month of a detrimental variation to your agreement. You can end the agreement within one month of us telling you about a variation to your agreement (which includes your Price Plan) which is likely to be of detriment to you. You must give written notice to 3 Customer Services within that month and your agreement will finish at the end of that month once we receive your notice. (A Cancellation Fee will not be charged.)
  • I've typed my letter ready to send and enclosed my last bill. I've done a quick calculation based on 10 days usage. I made 28 calls under 1 minute totalling 9 minutes 35 seconds. With the proposed changes on the Mix & Match tariff I would have used 28 minutes of my allowance. A massive increase in usage of 299% compared to per second billing. Detrimental??- definitely!!!!
  • Does any one know if they have made this change to the older talker/txter plans??

We haven't had a letter yet...but if they did this it will mean DH txter phone is abolutely no use as all his calls are very short!
  • I'm not sure about the older price plans. I used to be on Video Talk & Text 700 and was only charged per second billing.
  • I've done a more detailed calcualtion and included the text below in my letter:

[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]As you can see from my call logs, a lot of my calls (are less than a minute) and my previous price plan only charged per second billing. I find the changes to the terms and conditions from the 11th December totally unacceptable as it will have a detrimental affect on my current Mix & Match bundle. I've calculated how the changes will affect my current usage based on my bill dated 25th August 07 (bill enclosed). I made a total of 71 calls under 1 minute, the total call duration of these calls were 23 minutes 48 seconds. When this is compared to the proposed changes that will come into affect on the 11th December I would have used 71 minutes of my Mix & Match bundle. An increase in usage of my allowance by 302%. I've also enclosed my bill dated 25th September 07, I was away on holiday for 3 weeks but the usage is pretty consistent with my previous bill. I made a total of 28 calls under 1 minute, the total call duration of these calls were 9 minutes 35 seconds. If all the calls under 1 minute were rounded up I would have used 28 minutes of my allowance an increase of 299%.

  • Will I get to keep the phone? it's a nokia N95 i've only had it for a week.
  • Hi mulerider,

Sorry to jump threads but I saw your post in the retentions thread:
Had a offer I couldn't refuse, FREE N95 on mix and match 700 without any further add-on with the option to upgrade after 15 months. Just £26 a month including my unlimited internet add-on.
I'm trying to get retentions to give me the same deal but they say they can't do that deal unless I can give them your phone number to prove that someone gave that deal.

I can understand you might not want to give that out but is there any chance you would be able to? - i'd only give it to 3 and no one else. You could private message or email me it.

Also, did you call up and get that deal or did they give you a call after you'd put your notice in and offer you it?

    Thanks

    Ian
