Do I help partner out of debt?

That would still involve her income being used as part of the budget affordability calculation if they are living together, which is a bit unfair. I agree with the sentiment though.0 -
I've had a similar scenario with my partner, though I know for sure that she doesn't *expect* me to pay off her debts. Because of interest rates on the debts it has put strain on our finances so we sat down together and made a plan. As much of the debt as possible has been put into a 0% credit card account (be quick with these as they look like they may not be on offer much longer), the remainder that couldn't be transferred we paid off with savings. We now have a saving plan in place to pay off the remainder once the 0% comes to an end.
It may be naive on my part, but this relationship for me will be for life so we are tackling this as a team-ultimately how you go about this will depend on the strength of your relationship. By what you have said in response to a few others comments, your partner sounds like the person who puts his head in the sand a little when it comes to finances. It's hard to break the habit, but setting a few achievable goals for money saving can be rewarding and help engage a person's mind for dealing with money. For example, budget to only spend "X" amount on groceries for the month, or spend less than £50 on eating out for the month etc.0
