CCJ in my Mum’s name

Hope someone can help or advise!
I’ve recently noticed that I have a CCJ placed on my credit file. I phoned Experian who were able to give me the court details etc. Since then I’ve been so worried and wondered what it could be for as I’ve always been very good with credit and money in general. I’ve not received any letters and even went to my old address and asked if any correspondence had been sent there (they’d received nothing).
I since upgraded my credit report so that I could see a bit more. It then transpired that the CCJ belongs to my mother and has been put on my credit file (with multiple agencies) in error. We share the same initials and address. I then contacted Experian again who apologised that they didn’t notice this before and have escalated the issue for investigation and complaint.
Where do I stand with all of this and what would I need to do? I’m hoping it’ll be fully removed with no trace of it being there as of course it’s not mine but I’ve been informed that this can take some time. However, if it’s on multiple records then I wouldn’t even know where to start and how much of an impact this has had. This is likely to affect my job and credit now and puts me in such a difficult situation moving forward.
Am I also entitled to any compensation?
Thanks in advance.

What quantifiable financial loss have you suffered that may merit a compo claim?
Have a letter of correction added to the files while they get the mistake amended. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

But it hasn't affected your job so far, and you can avoid applying for credit until it's sorted out.Am I also entitled to any compensation?
Thanks in advance.
So far you haven't suffered any real loss, so no.0 -

Check all 3 agencies and ask each of them to remove it if it’s there.
No compo is due.0 -
Thanks all.
I meant compensation from the credit rating agencies as opposed to my mum. I am subject to random checks with my job and feel like it’s just majorly stressed me out having this on my file when it’s not mine. Why would I apply for credit now when I’m likely to be rejected and make it worse?
Is it also just the 3 main agencies in the UK that I’d need to contact to have it removed and would this mean it’s gone without a trace?
I also feel let down by the woman from Experian who informed me about all the court details for my CCJ etc and said that my letters were likely to have gone to my old address. It wasn’t actually until I phoned her back that she too noticed that it wasn’t mine and apologised. If she had done this before I wouldn’t have had to start finding ways of getting the money to pay it within the 30 days to have it possibly removed. Just caused so much stress and embarrassment.0 -
No you’re still not due any compo.
Contact the 3 UK agencies and try to avoid cross posting in other threads.0 -
It's human error. You feel let down by the lady at experian because she didnt initially realise it's your mum's ccj.
If your mum had sorted her bills out the ccj would never exist. So has she let you down?
You could try and blame anybody really.
But at the end of the day you found and error. Experian acknowledge it and rectify.
If its logged on all 3 reports its not really experian fault is it.
You say you wouldn't have had the stress of trying to find the cash but surely you knew it wasn't a debt you owed?

We are in a litigious society where people want compensation for anything. Unless you have had financial impact, e.g. lost your job because they found out the CCJ or applied for credit and was rejected because of the CCJ then no compensation is due.
You have noticed and reported, the CRA have apologised and raised a complaint to get it resolved, if it's on other agencies you can inform them too. Should be fairly straight forward.0 -
and yet if we made a mistake like going over our overdraft or credit limit banks wouldn't just accept an apology they would want a fee payed and would want to record that on our credit file.
I do think people on MSE are too eager to give excuses for banks and the CRA our credit file is a very important aspect of our financial life.
one error can cause huge implications look at the cifas debacle when sky added one to a customers file accouunts closed mortgage put on hold all because details om his credit file were incorrectly added.
If i was the OP i'd make a note of all the time and effort its taken you to get this sorted phone calls emails to the CRA time taken searching the web to find out what to do etc and then request compensation as a goodwill gesture. Whether they pay is another matter though lol0 -
Mother welches on debt, causes daughter stress, daughter blames third party and asks for compo.
Sadly we all probably know families like this.0
