I dont know if they do it in tesco but in waitrose and sainsburys, they give you the whole trout in a foil bag with sliced butter in it snd a sticky label telling you how long to shove it in the oven for ( IIRC about 25 mins)
I have got a rainbow trout in the freezer In the foil bag it came in. I must eat that with the new potatoes just cropping and some lightly steamed veg, yum! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
fish pie - I rarely bother with a white suace but save all my reduced bits til I have enough to make one with a nice mix of cod, salmon, prawns and smoked fish - cut into chunks, covered with cream and topped with mash
fish curry - either a creamy one with coconut milk or in a tomato based sauce
baked in foil parcels with various flavourings - olives, toms and herbs, lemon butter and white wine, ginger, soy and chilli etc
fish cakes - great way of scretching smaller amounts - salmon, white fish and smoked fish with either grated or mashed spuds
battered and deep fried - or goujons breaded and shallow fried
panfried in butter then the pan deglazed with a splash of wine, maybe chuck in some herbs and or cream - simple and delishPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I buy the 1kg bags of Alaskan Pollock fillets from Lidl, these can be a bit bland tasting so I sandwich a little cheese and parsley between 2 fillets and wrap in Black Forest Ham ( also from Lidl ) and then roast in the oven .
Delicious !

I think we presently eat fairly healthily, mostly cooked from scratch, low fat,low sugar/processed,no ready meals and at least 1 meatfree day a week etc...But one area im realy lacking in is fish!
So far we're limited to tinned tuna(sandwiches, baked potatoes,tuna/pasta bake)..Birds eye frozen fish portions.....and a very very occassional fish supper. How can i introduce more fish into our weekly meals without it costing too much?(No-one here will eat shellfish)We can go for weeks at a time without eating any fish at all.

fish pie? Mix of any cheap fish, cooked and flaked, mix with a basic white sauce, pour into an oven dish and topped with mash. Bake until the tops are golden brown.... hmmmm I may have to make this tonight now!0

also fish cakes. Mix flaked (cooked) fish with mashed potatoes, and whatever herbs/seasoning you like (parsley is gorgeous), shaped into fish cake shapes (surprise surprise) and either pan fried or baken in the oven. You can also coat it with egg and bread crumb for crunchy crispy fish cakes.0

homemade fish fingers - fresh/defrosted fish, breadcrumbs, s & p
cut fish crossways into fingerish/goujon shapes mix breadcrumbs with s & p, roll fish in breadcrumbs - pop on an oiled oven tray, drizzle oil and bake in hot oven or shallow fry (you can do a dip in flour, roll in egg and then breadcrumbs if you have the urge!)
another favourite in my house is from Economy Gastronomy - we use salmon pieces - its basically cooked pasta, flaked cooked fish mixed with a white sauce with half a tub of creamcheese added. put in a dish, cover with breadcrumbs dotted with butter/drizzle of oil and bake - we put achovies on the top but leave if too strong for your taste.0 -
kedgeree is delicious, can make a little fish go a long way, and is easy to make. It is based on rice and smoked fish, usually mackerel or haddock. There are loads of recipes out there so I won't post one here, just Google it. You don't have to have precise quantities of anything, you can put as much or as little fish in as you want.If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0
