Credit card transfer for disability

Hi, looking for advice.
Dad is disabled (due to illness) and mum left work to become full time carer. A couple of years a go I took out a CC and had my mum named on the account with her own card to help them.
I am now getting fed up with the odd missed payment every couple of months, usually around £10. Basically I'm their garanteur/my credit rating.
Can I remove myself for the account leaving my mum only or is there a balance transfer available for those earning only disability and carers allowance?
I have a good relationship with parents.

You can close the account once the balance is zero. It can't be transferred to her.
If you can get a BT card, you can transfer it but it will still be in your name. It seems unlikely she would be able to get her own BT card.0 -
If it's only £10 or so every month, why don't you set up a DD to pay off the balance every month?
As the card was taken out in your name, you are the one who will be chased for payment, not the additional card holder, so I don't see why your mum is getting the bill, not you.0 -
CC accounts only have a single named account holder who is responsible for paying the bill, but can have additional card holders who also spend on the account. It sounds like the account is in your name, so as long as the balance is paid off you can close the account at any time you like. Otherwise I'd highly recommend setting up a DD to pay your balance in full to avoid missing any payments in future.
It doesn't sound like your parents are likely to get a card in their own right, but it would be worth looking into it at least - there are plenty of eligibility checkers that can give you an idea of what may be possible without having to make a full application. As long as your parents use their own details, and incomes from their benefits then it should give a realistic estimate of what they may be accepted for.0 -
Cancel the additional cards your parents have (tell them first though)
as above - use eligibility tools to see if either/both of them can have an account of their own. Tell them about setting up a DD to pay the statement on time too.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards.
