Who pays for name change on flight booking?

My DD is going away in September with her friend and their family - she has taken someone elses place.
The holiday was booked as follows;
Hotel booked directly (family have been to same hotel approx 15 times so get a discount if booked direct via hotel)
Flights are booked separately (Ryanair)
The cost of the name change on the flight is £115 I believe.
The girl who was meant to be going, pulled out due to a fallout with this friend (big back story here!) The names need changing on the flight and the family have demanded she pay it for messing them about which her parents said they would honour but they are now ignoring calls.
Word has got back to the family that they are refusing to pay it and said we should pay it instead but the family won't let us as they say its not our fault.
Ive offered to pay the £115 if its comes to it but they won't let me.

the girl that has pulled out loses the money paid for the ticket but I don't believe they can make her pay to change the ticket to another passenger.
Have you looked at the cost of your daughter buying a new ticket for herself rather than paying to change the other ticket?0 -
Ahhh the joys of booking flights/holidays with family/friends there is always a person who falls out or cant afford it
Well if she wants to go someone is going to have to pay and the original family wont pay so its down to you or friend who booked it.0 -
It doesn't make any difference to the non-attendee if someone else takes their place or not - for whatever reason they've already lost the flight costs etc already paid. No one is going to lose out financially if they don't go. So I can see why they would demur at paying an extra £115 for something that's not going to affect them anyway.
The friends family has a choice - pay up, split the cost with you, or let you pay if they really want a friend for their daughter to go along. Digging their heels in to try to insist the other person pays when the other party has no legal obligation and no benefit from it is just going to leave their daughter losing out.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

The girl hasnt paid a penny towards that holiday. I'll explain...
The family paid in full for everything (hotel and flights) at time of booking. They did it that way as the hotel didnt offer the usual deposit first, pay rest by... bla bla bla.
The agreement with the girls family was that they would pay them back for the holiday and flights in installments but she pulled out before paying a penny.
They had to fill the place as they would have lost money - hence my DD going instead. And now we are paying them back for the holiday instead.
Sorry my OP wasnt very clear 😟0 -

horrible situation..
anything in writing for them to be able to take it to small claims court?0 -
Also the girl family didn't have the funds at time of booking-hence the agreement to pay the family back in installments. They have also just found out that her family have paid for her to go away with her boyfriend instead...0

I see 2 issues here:
1. Your daughter needs a flight in her name.
That will be either as a name change to the original booking or booking a totally new flight at whatever the current cost is - assuming there are spare seats available on the flight.
Somebody needs to contact Ryanair and do the name change - and pay for it - or somebody needs to pay for a new ticket - and pay for it.
The family digging their heels in isn't going to get your daughter on the holiday.
2. Recovery of costs (flight/hotel) from the original passenger.
I see that as between the family who paid for the first girl's flight and the girl/and her family and I wouldn't get involved in that at all.murtle1981 wrote: »Not as far as Im aware...it was just verbal unfortunately 0 -
If the OP is happy to pay for the name change I think the people who have paid for everything are just being stubborn. I understand their point of view, but the simple reality is that if the name change isn't done the replacement person can't travel. Get the name changed, put it down to experience, and don't invite the original person again.0

So how is your daughter going to get on the flight?

I think I know what Judge Rinder would say in this case.
The family are going to change the name on the flight as they have booked it- we are just waiting for DDs new passport (renewal)to arrive so they can give passport number etc at time of name change.
BUT i see your point...if they don't get the money off other party tto enable them to change the name, either us or them will have to foot the fee because I really dont want DD to miss out or possibly have to pay for another flight im her own name which cannit be guaranteed as we don't know if there are any seats left!
Its a bit of a mess if im honest.
I might suggest we split it if it comes to it.
Just to add, the other family HAVE NOT paid a penny towards this trip- the girl pulled out before paying anything back0
