The family are going to change the name on the flight as they have booked it- we are just waiting for DDs new passport (renewal)to arrive so they can give passport number etc at time of name change.

BUT i see your point...if they don't get the money off other party tto enable them to change the name, either us or them will have to foot the fee because I really dont want DD to miss out or possibly have to pay for another flight im her own name which cannit be guaranteed as we don't know if there are any seats left!
Its a bit of a mess if im honest.

I might suggest we split it if it comes to it.
Just to add, the other family HAVE NOT paid a penny towards this trip- the girl pulled out before paying anything back

Well not try to see if flights available and maybe cheaper

OP, are you paying for your daughter's flight/holiday? I'm trying to determine whether this is the only £115 you would pay; or if you would be paying £115 in addition to the flight price and a share of the hotel cost.

If the family are 'sucking up' the original flight and share of hotel, then it is perfectly valid for you to pay the £115 fee as it will be all that you pay.

If you are paying them for the original flight and share of hotel, I don't think you should pay the extra £115 on top. But I don't think they should either. I think the original girl should pay the £115 as their penalty for withdrawing from the original deal.

The family are not going to make any changes to the flight booking unless someone pays the £115 fee.

So you are in a Catch-22 situation.

Why don't you look at the Ryanair website and see if there are any spare seats on the flight and if there are, work out the cost - any luggage, priority boarding etc.

It's all well and good insisting the dropped-out girl pays for the name change but Ryanair don't care who paid for the ticket.
They just want £115 for the name change.
And the name change isn't going to happen until they get that payment.

But that is the problem of the family who booked the holiday. Not yours.

It's easy to decide what is morally right in situations like this.

But with the dropped-out girl's family digging their heels in and nothing in writing, I think the family may be on a hiding to nothing.

And being 'morally in the right' isn't going to get the OP's daughter on that flight unless/until someone pays the £115.

    Hiya!
We are paying for the whole thing...the hotel, flights and taxi transfers.
The holiday was paid in full by the family and the agreement was for the original girl to pay them back before the holiday in installments. But she pulled out before paying anything.
So we are paying them back as my DD has taken her place.
The hotel wss booked direct under just a lead passenger name so no changes needed there. Its literally just the flights that need name change.

I'd suggest to the family who booked the holiday that you pay the name change and the difference between the original cost of the ticket minus the £115 name change (so you are no worse off than if your daughter had been going in the first place) and leave it up to them how they manage getting whatever money they feel is due back to them from the dropped-out girl's family.

I feel you are allowing yourself to be dragged into something that's really none of your concern or worry.

They had to fill the place as they would have lost money - hence my DD going instead. And now we are paying them back for the holiday instead.
They need to stop being pig-headed about who is going to pay for the name change.
You are doing them a favour here.

I'm quite surprised that this family is asking you to pay for taxi transfers though.
I would have seen that as a cost to the whole family - a cost that they'd have had to pay whether your daughter was going with them or not.

As others have said, pay the money and let your daughter enjoy her holiday.
I think the chances of getting any money from the girl (or her family ) who dropped out is slim to non, small claims court? waste of time even if you win probably pay you £1 a month, write it off and put it down to experience.

Even then it's not a slam dunk win. There was a "falling out", so can the family who booked it honestly say that had the original girl said "I'll come anyway" they would be happy taking someone on holiday they'd fallen out with? If not, then it's 50/50.

OP, make sure you write a letter of permission, see https://www.gov.uk/permission-take-child-abroad

How does the current fare price for the flight in question (look on Ryanair website) compare to the originally paid price plus name change fee..?
