Decided to get a dominos in at work while on my break.

Driver turns up with a messed up order.

Tell him that I want a refund and to take it back. I then call the branch.

They have me on hold for 10 minutes which induces a certain degree of anger.

End up having an argument with the manager on the phone.

10 minutes later I’m informed by my line manager that Dominos have phoned up to complain about me! Claiming I swore at the driver.

I had made the order from my own mobile phone so they’ve went to the liberty of seeking out my works phone number and contacting them.

Can they actually do that? Seems a bit weird. Seething that some jumped up manager has tried to land me in a ton of trouble at work.

I’ve been in touch with Dominos and they have profusely apologised. They said the manager went too far.

All in all a very weird situation.

    Some advice would be appreciated
    1. Calm down. Seething over something that is relatively trivial is a bit silly.
    2. Explain the situation to your manager so s/he knows that you only argued with the Domino manager and didn't swear at him.
    3. Decide whether or not the apology is sufficient to make you want to use them again. If it isn't, don't.
    4. If you don't like these points of advice, practice your best compo sad-face and call the local paper.
  • Haha if in doubt get the compo face out

I wonder why your manager is getting involved in something that is none of his business
He sounds as bad as the Domino's manager TBH

Because the Domino's manger phoned him and the incident happened on work premises?

It could be argued that as the OP was at work and ordering for delivery at a work premises, he was representing his company and could be facing a charge of bringing the company into disrepute.
  • Bringing the company into disrepute?

I sent the delivery driver back because he had delivered an unfulfilled order.

The Dominos manager made a spurious claim therefore it was his job to provide evidence and back up his claim.

I’ve done nothing wrong other than cross the path of a very unprofessional shift manager at Dominos

Well, that depends on who your manager believes. It's up to them to investigate it and draw their own conclusions.

Just to add, we have company branded workwear with our names on and it is made quite clear that if we are out in it (ie popping to shops on way home) then we are representing the company and should behave accordingly. People have been sacked, this is a big multi national company with 99% union representation.
