Hello, I have the ticket saved on the usb and have just received the SSD so am ready for the next stage,
Thanks0 -
If you're all backed up, get that SSD installed. Make sure the computer's not plugged in, take it apart, unplug the hard disk drive, and install the SSD in it's place. Reassemble.
Restart your computer, get into the BIOS or Boot menu (DEL, F12, F11, F2 - keep tapping them as soon as the computer turns on), and choose to boot from the USB drive, instead of the 'hard drive' as usual.
You computer has the Windows key registered against it, you don't really have a key. When you install Windows and are asked for one, you click 'I don't have a key' and Windows will activate itself after it installs, when it gets internet.0 -

How can it be on Windows 7 if you disconnected the drive that contains Windows 7?
Open: https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_studio_xps_desktop/studio-xps-7100_service%20manual_en-us.pdf
First click on; Removing the Computer Cover and then Drives(you only need to get as far as Disconnect the power and data cables from the hard drive. Don't actually remove the hard drive itself.
You only unplug from the hard drive side. The other ends stay connected to the Motherboard.
The ends that you removed from the hard drive side, you plug into the SSD.
That's it for now. Now you actually have no operating system installed. So you will not be able to boot into Windows 7 at all, as the old HDD has been totally disconnected and anyway
You should get a message to the effect of No operating system found. Reboot and select proper boot device
Do you? If you don't you have done something wrong.0
