If you're on over £60K, you're not entitled to any child benefit,
Bug bear of mine... do children get cheaper because you earn more? Nope! Do they take into account your mortgage/rent/other financial liabilities? Nope!
Friends of mine both earn £45K and due to an inheritance have no mortgage and yet they can claim child benefit and both pay lower rate tax.... OH and I earn a bit more, but have a HUGE mortgage and OH gets clobbered with higher rate tax. So overall our take home pay home is significantly less and we don't get child benefit.. silly system. First world problems, but some of these thresholds make no senseDFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

Sorry to hear that you have had a disappointment with the new man, especially when he seemed like someone you could trust. Finding a life partner is so difficult but will probably happen when you least expect it. It's a shame that it has taken some of the enjoyment away from all the good things that have been happening to you recently but I am sure that won't be for long. As for the chid benefit, it is an unfair system, like many of the systems but at least you will be better off with your salary increase and because of your new found budgeting skills and soon to be debt free status, you will be so much better off. On another note I was wondering if there is any need for you to move from the house you are renting in the foreseeable future? I know you want to own your own property but given the good deal on renting that you have, the longer you stay there and the bigger deposit you can save, the better it will be in the long run.0

Sorry to hear about the man. Even a text saying "sorry I've changed my mind about us" would have been better than complete ghosting. What is wrong with people? Who thinks that's acceptable behaviour  His loss sweetheart xxMortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000

Thanks Moneywhizz, yes I won’t be moving from this house until I have a big enough deposit to buy. As I said before this house is owned by my family and so I get it at the mortgage price as opposed to the renting price. If it was on the rental market it would be near £2k a month (3bed, modern, beautiful area) i would be mad to give that up!
Girls at play- I know right?! Like come on we are adults have some integrity! Tbf it’s much better these personality flaws are shown so early on, so I am definitely better off out of it!
Thanks for the kind words as always xxMy debt free journey, diary and all! New Life Pending :beer:0 -
Sorry to hear your confidence has been knocked due to the guy you have been seeing but it is his loss. Don't let this burst your bubble as you have been doing so well sorting out your finances and moving from a job you dislike to a much better paid one and hopefully one you will be happy in. You live in a nice house at a discounted rent and have a lovely son and what sounds like a great company car so just count your blessings and ignore the idiot who is so juvenile he cannot send an explanation text.
Focus on the really important stuff of building a better future for you and your son and hopefully one day you may meet someone you want to be with but it is not compulsory. There are some weirdos out there... one of my best friends is doing internet dating. She says getting ghosted is a regular thing. Some of these men see it as a hobby. One time she was waiting to meet a guy in a pub (she'd been out with him a few times before) and he kept saying he was on his way, but never turned up. 2 hours she waited, when she went to message him for the final time to say she was going home, she found out he'd blocked her on whatsapp. Who does that?!DFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)
