  • Yes, I'm in the North West and it's council-run so that'll be why! Everything is really affordable here in comparison to the South! Like our £750 a month rent for a 4 bed house in a decent area!

That's amazing value! But i suppose they say the earning is higher in London, not sure if that is replicated across all the big northern cities though! To be fair, i bet any plus on salary in the south is equaled out by cost of living anyway. A glass of wine in the city can cost just shy of £20

  • I agree, in this case use the EF to get rid then build it back up.

You are doing incredibly well, don't lose sight of that :)
    Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000
    Mortgage today = £161,690.76
    300 271 payments to go.
    House buyout fund £21,000/£40,000

  • ok guys, after a day of thinking and moving numbers around, tomorrow morning i will be able to pay this loan off!!!! but..... it is going to leave me seriously short for the next 3 weeks. I will still have my food and fuel pots in tact and all bills have been paid, however, it will mean there is zero budget for anything else. If i live literally work, home, work home, i will have to make it work. Do we still think its a good idea considering it will be a real struggle??? I was thinking if there was any emergency my mum has one CC thats mine that could be used if i went and got it from her, but it doesnt feel very MSE. however, on the flip side thinking of the loan gone and how much interest i will be saving im thinking it might be worth risking it. HELP please!!!! my mind whirling on what the right thing is to do considering its such a risk not having any budget pots left!!!

Im going to list 7 items on ebay tonight, and ive still got £110 nearly payable on TCB but its taking ages to process now on week 10, all confirmed but not as yet payable.

    Sorry for the manic post!!

  • I think you should still go for it. You'll be relieved to see it gone and with you not being a homeowner, not paying for a car and not having a pet, the chances of an emergency within 3 weeks are low.
It all depends on how realistic you think your fuel and grocery budgets are.
If you can raise some extra funds by selling stuff that'll obviously help.
Have you had a look if you have any books/CDs that you can flog on Ziffit? I got £50 from my first sale on there ages ago (lots of cookbooks and language courses).
Also, look into Prolific Academic and some other survey sites if you're not already on them.
I've had over £130 in payouts from Prolific in the last 15 months, and also had £100+ in Amazon vouchers from snapping job adverts with JobSpotter.
    It all adds up!
  • Oh and also Shoppix and ReceiptHog for snapping receipts in return for vouchers.
  • Personally, I'd still go for paying off the loan. It is such a millstone round your neck and the sense of accomplishment once it's gone will spur you on.

Try not to use the CC but it's there in case of an absolute emergency. It may not be strictly MSE but maybe the best option in these circumstances and for a really short period of time.

    Good luck,
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.
  • I would pay off the loan tomorrow. Three weeks of frugal living will not be that bad and if you have an emergency of some kind that you haven't thought of, you could always fall back on your credit card, although it would have to be something really urgent before your team of advisers here will give you permission to use it! What an accomplishment to have the loan gone is just over two months instead of the 6 or more you thought it would take when you started your diary. Now you can move your focus to getting these credit cards gone too. I would be inclined to top up your budget pots but keep the emergency fund fairly low and start throwing as much as you can at the cards since they are quite high interest too.
  • Pay the loan, pay the loan, pay the loan :T:rotfl:
