    In that case you have probably used standard parcel post and not 1st class as there is no enhancement for extra insurance on standard mail. Assuming it was sent as a parcel then your receipt slip will enable you to reclaim your loss from the Royal Mail after 15 working days has elapsed.

    You will need to either get a claim form from the PO or start the claim online via the RM web site and then print it out and send it off. You will also need to supply your postal receipt (keep a copy!!) and proof of cost and also your ebay page showing the sale.

    So the moral of the story is;

    For a high value item, send recorded delivery?

    I ask cos i have something that I expect will sell for around the £50 mark, so want to avoid this kind of nightmare.

    Recorded delivery is pretty unreliable these days, you don't always get a signature, and it's a highly visible indication that the item is a) valuable and b) untraceable in the RM system (cough cough)

    Use special delivery for decent service... and always send to a confirmed address.

    Recorded only covers upto £34 & anything worth more should be sent via RM Special Delivery or Parcelforce/DHL

    If the OP makes a RM claim, won't they check with the buyer if it has been received?

    Hhmmm, so Special Delivery is the best bet?

    I'm selling a PS2 so don't want to get skanked, as this is exactly the kind of thing that this happens to.

    But surely if they say they have received the item then I should get my money? Oh heck.

    Also the other buyer has filed a dispute as I will not post the item unless they get their address confirmed so that I am covered. I have e-mailed them to tell them I can credit them and they can pay another way - what do you recommend - please..

    Thanks

    Ha, Ha, there's the joy of Paypal, you can tell Paypal the buyer has got the goods, the buyer can tell you and Paypal they have got the goods but because you haven't got it signed for the buyer can still get their money back.

    If any other financial institution treated it's customers the way Paypal does there would be a dedicated forum on MSE for campaigning and getting things changed, but all you normally will get is:

    1) You should understand how Paypal works
    2) Your agreed to their T&Cs (as did everyone over bank charges, but that's a different story)
    3) Buyer like it and it's good for sales

    You need to refund asap. And make sure you put in the dispute that you are unable to send to an unconfirmed address.
