Barclays Internal Review Hell

I spoke to the gentleman in question tonight. He denies he received the money from Barclays. He also spoke to his bank, Natwest, who have also confirmed they have not received funds.
Yes - have all his details.
Barclays confirmed the refund was processed on 9th July - can this take over 20 days to clear into Natwest?
Back to Barclays tomorrow to see if they can provide written proof of return of funds.0 -
...the buyer who has done a disappearing act.I spoke to the gentleman in question tonight. He denies he received the money from Barclays. He also spoke to his bank, Natwest, who have also confirmed they have not received funds.
Earlier this afternoon you said the buyer had done a disappearing act but now you've spoken with him! Please explain.0 -
I do feel that you have been unfairly treated by Barclays but I have said it many times and will continue to say it - do not let anybody and I mean anybody transfer money into your account
you have no idea where it comes from it could be laundered money it could be scam money it could be anything d
doesn't matter it's for a cooker or whatever it is a hard lesson to learn but for anybody else reading this in the future do not let anybody transfer anything into your account
What alternative would you suggest then cash in hand??0 -

I visited his property.
OK, so bit of a waste of time telling us about the buyer disappearing and your intended legal action, given that you then visited him (during the afternoon, presumably, rather than the evening); he then rang NatWest whilst you were there (I'm guessing) and they said, 'No money here'.
So, who is lying (or mistaken) - Barclays, NatWest, the buyer, all of the above, or none of the above? What's your gut telling you? I know what mine is telling me.0 -
Was evening. And absolutely I have to consider legal action - I don't see other alternatives if both the buyer denies receiving funds and Barclays insist on it being sent.
Further conversations with Barcalys today have confirmed what I was told yesterday as 100% correct but they will not provide written proof of where the money was sent. They view the buyer a 'victim of fraud' and are treating me as someone who has inflicted that.
Gut feeling.... truthfully a little spread. Absolutely I was both naive and perculiar surrounding the transaction, and that has worked against me - I've learnt a lot from it. Barclay's have been extremely poor in informing me of the correct details, details which they are authorised to be tell me so there is a bitter distrust. However, logically thinking IF Natwest had received request from the buyer to retract fraud investigation but had ignored or not actioned it - then I can see how the two banks have determined to reverse the transaction. The probability of Natwest following up their initial fraud investigation with retraction within 24 hours seems highly unlikely given the determination. So, in a nutshell, either the buyer is telling a mistruth about the retraction - whereby he's likely to be lying about the money OR Natwest have not followed up his request and gone in all guns blazing. Both are plausible.
I really cannot fathom Barclays outwardly lying to about return of funds - they've been shoddy in communication but not maliciously lied. Furthermore I cannot see that the buyer is lying either. If I were to put my last chip on it I would say it's being held up by one of the banks. Personally I think Barclays have sent the money to Natwest handling team where it has stopped in transit for whatever reason.
Does anyone know if it is a legal requirement to give details of returning of funds following fraud investigation.
What's your gut feeling Terry?0 -

I have to say, having read the information provided above (texts, eBay messages etc) he definitely sounds like someone who is trying to scam you.
I sold a large object on eBay recently, not in monitory terms, just size (however the money was around the £500 mark), he wanted to pay by PayPal, I wanted cash only, we disagreed so cancelled the sale. I argued without proof of delivery he could claim I hadn't sent it/he hadn't received it and he would be able to get his money back, he argued he wanted PayPal protection.
If you ask me, I think he has played you like a fiddle and this was his intention all along.0 -
You forgot to upload the photo of the buyer's bank statement showing the payment.0

Terry - it’s a screenshot within his letter to me. I’ve edited it out the bulk but included the unique ttransaction code that is internal to Natwest. I would not have that code without it being provided by the purchaser.0
