just stumbled on this thread and felt all lovely and warm after reading what you have done, got three young girls under 5 and realise that they are so lucky to have what they have, love, security, safety etc etc. can you pm me, i want to help, not sure what i can do for you apart from offer some funds for maybe some toys or extra sweets but i really think its lovely thing that you are doing and well done to you, as people have pointed out there isn't enough people like you.

i wish i could get off my !!!! and do something like that myself, to help the kids on what must be a horrible time if you have no family around.

good luck and i hope to here from you soon.
Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!

Another idea for kids presents - poundstretcher do some very nice children's books from some famous publishers, with lovely artwork, reduced from five pounds to a pound. Some are best sellers like skipping rope snake, others less well known. Worth reading the story before buying, some aren't that great, but some are excellent. These would be good for disandvantaged kids. When I did teaching practice in London I was very surprised to discover that a lot of families don't have any books whatsoever. Not a priority if a family is living in a one room bedsit I guess. But it is so important for children to learn to love stories and want to understand books - makes reading and writing a doddle if a child actually wants to do it.
  • What a nice thing to do!!
Its a really nice idea to do this and im sure they'll love it!

Keep up the good work ;)

    Hi All
Just seen a post elsewhere on this board advising that all toys are 50% off at Sainsbury's until the 28th.

Just getting my coat on and guess where I'm going and why?

Thanks to all of you for your comments, it really is much appreciated.

The day of the party will be my Christmas day - imagine seeing 100 children having a really good time and opening their presents.
  • with regard to extra presents, contact your local library see if you can get the free bookstart packs, they are given out by health visitors and nurseries but so many people don't get them, they would make a fantastic extra present for the sake of a phone call or two.
If you near bradford i can give you the contact name at the shipley library, they supply the packs to us and they are fab
    hope it helps

    Hi michellenealemum

Great tip. Never heard of it before. I'm up north but not near Bradford, however, will certainly give my local library a call in the morning to see if they offer the same thing.

    Again many thanks.

No. My colleague who was with me tried to tell her the total was wrong but she was insistant that the till could not be wrong and started getting a bit stroppy so we paid up and left.
