Help. Booked package holiday with Expedia, hotel demanding extra money for child.

I suppose looking back, the awful customer centre operatives at Expedia should have just come clean and investigated in detail and admit things have gone wrong with this booking. Instead they tried it on by suggesting I just pay up to the hotel as demanded.
At best that's lazy and at worst opportunistic!0
