Happy Sunday
Something very strange has happened. It actually rained yesterday and the day before. It was a decent amount but we still need more
Had a great day yesterday, went for a drive with my friend and went to some antique shops and met up with her mum. Didn't find much to buy but did end up with some silk pillowcases for $5.50 which my friend's mum kindly paid for as I forgot to bring cashI will return the favour at some point. I bought our coffees for $8.40 and spent $7.50 for cheese & biscuits snack when we got home. Also bought a shower caddy for $19.95 from a regular shop. Was a nice day and didn't spend too much so I'm pleased about that.
Today will be spend doing stuff around the house and washing. Goals for today:
- 3 loads of washing
- change water in fish tank
- plant some seeds in veggie garden
- tidy house
- vacuum & mop0 -
You've got rain! Yay! We had a bit of sun.
The drive out sounds like a nice change from work. I love antique-y places.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Another week gone
I'll share the bad news first. There is a leak in the shower . I can tell because the wall on the other side is all swollen and the paint is bubbling up. This may or may not be related to my tap washer changing shenanigans :rotfl:. I suppose I'll be ringing the insurance people tomorrow and in the meantime I have turned the hot water thing off unless I need it, in order to prevent further leakage. I am worried that insurance might not cover it, and that's what I get for trying to action plumbing work myself. That's what the Emergency Fund is for I suppose, to save me from my own stupidity.
The good news is: On Saturday I went on a date with a guy and it wasn't completely awfulI met him on a dating app, and was having serious anxiety about going on the date. I was a complete mess and if it wasn't for my sister being here and essentially forcing me to go, I probably would have bailed out :rotfl: It ended up being an interesting date, we went for coffee first and the conversation was pretty awkward and we both rambled on too much, but we seemed to get on quite well overall.
We decided we'd like to go for a look around the shops after, and I wanted to pop home to change into a t-shirt as the weather had changed significantly. When we got to my place I discovered I had locked myself out  I did not have my car, so thankfully he drove me over to my friend's place to collect my spare key and all was well. It was embarrassing but hilarious nonetheless.
Overall, it was a good date. It's hard to tell how you feel about someone after meeting them only once, but I do hope he asks me out again.0 -
If he's promising enough for you to want him to ask you out again, is it worth you making the next move?
You could even use the pretext of being locked out: 'I feel like a bit of an idiot for locking myself out like that but I wanted to say thank you again for taking me to my friend's, and if you'd like to go for another coffee some time, I'm not always like that...'
Leaks in showers... we had one when we moved here and installed a shower over the bath. Turned out the tiles around the bath weren't installed to be shower-proof. Who knew? Something to do with the backing or grouting I think (it was a long time ago). I had a bit of a moment when I realised the tiled wall was leaning towards the children in the bath underneath! Hope yours is sorted easily and isn't too big an expense.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Hey Cherry, I’m going to leave it in his hands for now, I think he actually likes me more than I like him at this stage. He is currently working away in another town and occasionally comes back here for a weekend, so we shall see. We have been messaging on the app, so will keep in contact with him and see what happens.0

Have just cashed out $12.29 from cashback app, so have added it to the House Savings, new balance is $6,017.35 :j
I decided to reduce my mortgage payment since the rate has gone down again. Was going to leave it but figured it’s better to have the money in my bank account rather than tied up in the mortgage. Monthly payment changed from $776 to $728. I have done some shuffling and decided to cut back in some other savings areas, and have upped my fortnightly House Savings amount to $500 :money: I might have to dip into it for the odd holiday or renovation, but figured I am much less likely to spend unnecessarily because I hate taking money from the House Savings.0 -
Another work week done and dusted. It was a bit of a rough one. I'm struggling with the monotony of life, the Annoying Coworker, and have started doing the diploma and it is extremely boring but also quite difficult.
Tuesday was payday so $500 has been added to the House Savings. New total is $6,517.35 :j. I will most likely have to dip into this to pay the insurance excess, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
The insurance sent a plumber and a builder to come and assess the damage in the bathroom, so now I am just waiting on a phone call to tell me what they will actually need to do. I feel a bit stressed because I don't know what they will want to do/what they will pay for, and the bathroom is old and falling apart anyway, so I have half a plan to get my friend's boyfriend who is a builder to renovate the whole thing, which will probably wipe out the entire House Savings, but it really needs to be done. It's not like I'm planning to buy a house or move anytime soon, so might as well enjoy a new bathroom
I am really in the mood to go out and buy something, but I know that I really shouldn't
I have no plans for this weekend, so I will spend it doing the usual cleaning and washing. There is always organisation that needs to be done, and my car is a mess so I should probably clean it out.0 -
Maybe your 'shopping' could be looking into a new bathroom and bookmarking a few things? Sort of 'fantasy bathroom'!
