  • Maybe your 'shopping' could be looking into a new bathroom and bookmarking a few things? Sort of 'fantasy bathroom'!
House savings are looking good. :)

Thanks Cherry :) I did indeed distract myself by looking at bathrooms online.

Good morning :) I have woken up with a headache for the five billionth time. I have been taking melatonin, which has been helping with my sleep, but I think it might be causing me to get headaches. So i will stop using it for a few days and see if they go away.

Yesterday was a lazy day, I did pretty much nothing except for one load of washing and managed to keep the house reasonably tidy.

I need to start going on the treadmill again (have been majorly slacking). I have lost some weight due to not eating sugar, but seem to be getting squishy in unfortunate places. Must exercise.

I need to be productive today so that I am organised for the week, otherwise I may not survive it :o See extensive to-do list below. I will be back later to update.

    -grocery shopping (done!)
    -unpack dishwasher (done!)
-wash sheets & put back on bed (done!)
    -wash towels (done!)
    -wash clothes (done!)
    -vacuum & mop (done!)
-change water in fish tank (water garden with fish water) (not done, used regular water, will do fish later in the week)
-clean rubbish & junk out of car (done!)
-throw out junk in garage so I can get to the treadmill (somewhat done, threw 2 bags of junk out)
  • Happy Friday! :j

I managed to convince my boss to give me today off (somewhat last minute). This week has been fraught. Have had to take the cat to the vet twice after work this week. She seems to have a sore tooth that was infected and made the whole side of her face swell up :(. She has been on antibiotics which has helped, but needs to get some teeth pulled out next week

The bathroom water leak situation is still ongoing. Had builder friend around and he cut a big hole in the wall and fixed the leak, but still need to get him back to replace the damaged part of the wall. Am taking a settlement from the insurance instead of getting it fixed through them, so need to get that coordinated. They are giving me approx $2200 and my friend has said it will cost $1000 to fix the wall, so I should have about $1200 left over. The plan is to renovate the whole bathroom, but I am stalled as am having difficulties choosing what I want. It is a very small and awkward layout. Builder-friend says it will cost around $7,500 to do the whole bathroom, which would use up all of my House Savings + the settlement money. but I have resigned myself to the fact that it needs to be done.

I am ashamed to say, even with all this happening and the uncertainty of money at the moment, all I want to go is go shopping and spend money  I genuinely do need some new clothes (and underwear :o), so I think I will pop to the shopping centre today, and try not to spend too much.

Your poor cat! I hope the treatment sorts the problem.

I'm clueless about bathroom layouts but it sounds like a big job. Does the builder have any good ideas to get you started?

Enjoy your shopping - you might as well. :)

  • Clothes shopping on Friday was successful. I managed to get a few things and didn't spend too much :D

So yesterday I went on a second date with the aforementioned guy, and it was..not great. He had been out til 4am the night before and I could tell he was not feeling good. It was awkward and we seemed to have no chemistry. I will not be going on another date with him. On the plus side, he paid for lunch, so I did not waste any money. Am disappointed because I put a lot of effort into making myself go on these dates only for it to be rubbish. Oh well. Back to the drawing board.

I have come up with somewhat of a plan for the bathroom, but need to talk to builder friend to see if it will be possible. Then I will need to pick out tiles, vanity, mirror, etc.

I should go grocery shopping today, but really don't feel like leaving the house :( I can make it a few more days without going, so I think I will do that.
  • Readers, I regret to inform you that I believe my house might be haunted. Another pipe exploded in the bathroom this morning . This time it was the one under the sink. It was a quick fix but it put water everywhere. The universe is definitely directing me to get a new bathroom.

I was going to type out some goals for the week, but I don't think I have it in me. I will just try to survive. Anything above that will be a bonus.

Maybe the house is haunted by a dodgy plumber? :D

Sorry the date didn't work out, though better now than later I guess. You seem to be having a few negatives lately. Perhaps your goal for the week should be to find something you'll enjoy doing. (I hope work doesn't get in the way of that). Or even just planning something nice for the future.

  • Cherry, you are right. I do need to find some positive things. This week is looking a lot calmer work-wise, so that’s good.

I am enjoying planning the bathroom renovation now that I have a better idea of what I want.

Today is payday so have added $500 to the Savings. New total is $7,017.35 which will soon be obliterated by the bathroom renovation and vet bills.

Mortgage payment came out today. The balance is now a smidge less than $150,000 :j and the monthly interest is the lowest it’s ever been thanks to low rates and the offset account :D

Now I will make a list of positive things because it makes me feel better.

    - I will soon have a shiny new bathroom
    - Christmas holidays (2 weeks off work) is fast approaching :)
    - This warm weather is making me feel very productive
    - My veggie garden is coming along nicely
    - I have money in savings which means I don’t have to worry about how much the vet bills will be when the cat gets her teeth sorted.
    - I have two very supportive friends + one great coworker who listen to my incessant ramblings and make me feel better when rubbish things happen
    - Free coffee at work (about to go drink some now)

Great that work has calmed down a bit. :)

I like your positives: it's so true that the small things can be the big things, especially in terms of the everyday blessings that make life lovely.

Are you affected at all by the bushfires? There are horrible stories on the news here about how bad it is. When we holidayed in Australia I remember seeing the burnt trees in amongst all the living ones - something you rarely see here - and realising it's much more part of the cycle of things in Australia, but not on this scale. Stay safe.

  • Hi Cherry, thanks for checking in. The fires are about an hour away from me, I don't think they'll make it to where I live, but you never know. The sky is grey/brown from all the smoke and dust. Wish it would rain. It's so dry and the wind is so gusty, no wonder everything is on fire.
