I got up early this morning and went on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I don’t know who I am anymore :p. Getting up was a bit of a struggle but it sure beats doing it after work.

Not much going on around here as far as money goes. Payday is still a week away. MrVF got his tax refund and put $1500 in his Car Savings so is now up to over $5,000. I’m just trying not to spend money although I do have a hair appointment this evening after work which I should have put off for a few weeks but it’s too late now. Oh well.

Work was pretty busy yesterday, which is fine but causes me to really lack motivation when I get home. House is a mess and no grocery shopping has been done, so I’m not sure what we will eat today :o. I might come home on my lunch break and try to tidy things up a bit.

The doctor has asked me to go back and talk to her about my blood results, so I booked an appointment for Thursday. I hope it’s just low iron levels, but she also tested my thyroid levels and I’m really hoping it’s not that. Anyways, I’m off to finish my coffee and get ready for work.

I hope the blood test isn't anything to worry about but for what it's worth, I've been on artificial thyroxine for some years and it's totally transformed my life. It's a small price to pay for the benefits you get - so if it is your thyroid, finding out about it could be very helpful. I know the classic symptoms of deficiency are weight gain, tiredness and low mood, but I've found my irregular heartbeat (sinus arrhythmia), is now regular (and strong), and following a recent change of dose, I'm no longer so thirsty. Lots of unexpected benefits. :)

The downside is you shouldn't take breakfast or coffee for an hour after taking the medication. That's not easy! :D

Doctor appointment went fine, just low iron levels as suspected. Thryroid is normal.

Yesterday was payday for both of us so another $600 has been added to the House Savings. Updated balance is $4,060 :)

In other news, I am looking to do some study that I’ve put off for a long time. I am eligible for a considerable discount on the fee but the discount is due to expire soon, so I need to enrol in the next couple of weeks or it will be too late. I’m trying to work up the courage to ask my boss if he is willing to pay for it and/or allow me to do the study during work hours. I am going to send him an email today and I’m a bit nervous about it. At the end of the day, the worst that can happen is he says no, but I am freaking out about it nonetheless as I hate asking for things.

If I need to pay for it myself, it will have to come out of the House Savings fund :( and I will also need to buy a new laptop if I can’t do it at work. Feeling a bit stressed as we are heading into a busy period at work and it’s probably not a great time to try and start studying. But I really need to just bite the bullet and do it.

In more exciting news, after today I have two days of annual leave and then the weekend. And MrVF is buying a car today, as long as all goes to plan :j
  • Hoorah for the Dr! Good news.

Is the study a qualification/professional type study? I.e. will it enable you to increase your earnings once you have it? You're 25, I think you said, and way back when I was around that age I took a post-grad degree to try and make myself worth more in my profession.

Have never once regretted it - it even helped enormously when applying for work in different areas, as it stood for 'capable' in employers' eyes. Go for it, seriously, you won't regret it. If it helps your current work, and your boss is unwilling to fund all of it, see if she/he'd consider a contribution, a one-off cost, or as a last resort, even for you to pay back a part of it once you qualify and earn more? An old workplace I was in had a scheme whereby they would pay for the study, as long as you a) passed, and b) remained at the company for at least 12 months afterwards. (Otherwise you would have to pay them back the full cost). Could try offering that sort of deal?

    Good luck!

Great to hear that the blood tests were good!

That's excellent advice from FlorandFauna. I didn't do a post-grad and am still looking for an opportunity to jump in and do something. Is the busy period at work going to last long? Even if it does, having a set time to study would probably pay dividends in the longer term.

But do make time for you, especially if just thinking about it is stressing you x

Hi VF, just dropping in as you kindly visited my diary previously. :hello:

I know how you feel about the annoying co-worker, I have one who thinks he knows better than the other 3 people doing the same job (me, my job share partner & another full time lady) despite us all having done it for years compared to his 5 minutes. The worst part is the managers know he is useless but gave him the job anyway.

I had to do the same as you and consciously decide not to get wound up by it. It's not worth the stress! Easier said than done I know and admittedly I do have a wee moan about things he has/hasn't done at times but mostly I just try and let it go over my head. Sometimes you just have to let things go because you can't change other people, only yourself/your reaction to them/their behaviour.

You're doing really well with your house savings. :T

  • Flora - Thank you for your thoughtful reply :D. It’s a qualification that is very important to my role, but technically not required. It would be very beneficial to have it if I ever had to apply for a new job somewhere else. It’s a relatively simple course to do and I could probably get it done in 3-6 months as it’s self-paced. Will wait and see what my boss decides. I sent him an email late yesterday and now I’m away for 4 days, so that will give him plenty of time to think about it.

Cherry - The busy period is still a bit unknown at this stage, but I know that it’s coming at some point in the next couple of months but it should be over by Christmas. Regardless, I will make time to get the study done because I just want it over with.

Sashy - Thanks for popping in :)
I have learned to find great amusement in Annoying Co-Worker’s ridiculous behaviour, as she does it in front of our boss, and I have to wonder what goes through his head :rotfl:
  • MrVF bought the car! He is very happy with it, so I am glad for him. Goodbye old crappy car that breaks down every 5 seconds and leaks oil all over the driveway!:j

$20 of un-spent petrol money has been added to the House Savings. New total is $4,080. :D

I’ve got a day off and I’m not sure what to do with myself. There is always cleaning to be done, I suppose. Am contemplating a walk but the sun keeps going behind the clouds :(
