I say again (and this is EASY):

Double check your PCN (the first letter) as it sounds like it has nothing about the POFA 2012 on the back?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

    Next questions on this tack:

    Date of parking incident?

Date of Issue shown on the first letter from PE?

Back story is that our little boy was an inpatient in hospital for two weeks. I was told by ward that car reg details would taken for relatives and emailed to PE to cover the car for the duration of the stay, but they obviously failed to do this. The hospital will accept no blame for this as they do it “as a favour” when I called them to query this after the PCN came through.

How does giving relatives misleading information that directly leads to them receiving a PCN / need to appeal / possible court appearance / potentially large financial penalty etc. etc. be described as doing them a favour? Had they not said what they said none of this would have happened!

I'd point out the utter insanity of it till I was blue in the face! A favour indeed? Entrapment more like. Oh, and there's the little matter of a sick child. Obviously all relatives in that situation need a PCN to take their mind off things! The swine! The hospital seriously need to cancel this ASAP.

Totally agree Misty and first thing I did when the PCN came through was to call the ward.
They said that they are not responsible for the running of the car parks and it’s volunteers who come around taking parents or carers reg plates as an helping hand not something they are obliged to do. There are manual machines in the concourses etc that you can enter your own car details into on a daily basis, however when someone has taken your details and a relative is ill it’s the last thing you think of checking up on. The ward checked the number plate book and the car reg had not been entered by the volunteer on that day as there was no sign of it. They were “helpful” but refuse to accept responsibility as it is not a service that they have to provide.
    Infuriating!

Wards are so busy, don't bother complaining to them but to PALS as Redx advises above. Phoning PALS is usually an option, but email might be better from the point of view of stating everything methodically. Copy in the Board of Directors or whatever body is top dog in the hospital.

I hear what you're saying but a random non-system whereby volunteers may or may not follow through on promises to 'take care of' parking is much, much worse than not having such a system because without it the occupants of the car would have sorted it themselves!

Why don't you answer the questions above? Dates on NtKs can be crucial.

It's PALS you complain to, not the ward
