DairyQueen said:Village supermarket and pharmacy are still out of the usual suspects (sanitiser, tissues, paracetamol, blah de blah). I was lucky to snaffle the last, lonely anti-bac spray. Parents have been doing their usual online shop at Tesco and report very limited stock of loo rolls, beans, tinned tomatoes, dried pasta and, of course, zero sanitiser and anti-bac spray. They are 80s and housebound. They simply want to buy their usual one/two items.
Has it occurred to the stock-piling 10% of the population that they are creating shortages for the other 90%. Never realised just how many idiots are lurking in the UK population.1 -

A similar attitude to when others are losing their jobs it's regarded as a recession, when it's their own job a depression.3 -

Perhaps I should also consider having a ŕummage with my buried nuts.1 -

Presumably taking risks has built a successful business. Not quite as useful a trait when combating a global pandemic.Genuinely curious: we are due to drive to Les Arcs in just over 2 weeks (yes, I suspect a 90% chance it will be off with pistes closed🙄), but actually felt driving was THE best way to travel: absolutely minimal contact with anyone en route, & we don’t “party” there, so I believe very limited risk at the resort (staying in friends apartment - they have no guests for weeks before us)
The actual skiing must surely be low risk...it’ll be the cafes and bars that provide the main risk.
On other topics, since multi-quoting over several pages in this new forum is beyond me:- Yes, anti-bac sprays/wipes are useless next to a virus....but that bottle of 70% proof could do the job!
- On ISAs etc....I noticed a small bounce on my Pension Pot yesterday.....tracking things daily (interested) and was surprised to see yesterday was up 2.5% on the day before....back to late Jan figures, so ‘happy’ with that....I sort of expect more volatility for the weeks and months ahead, but who knows 🧐
- Boss is off to Paris today (Eurostar) to do “appraisals” with our French teammates. Luckily our team is all jaded and cynical enough to know it is really a load of Corporate tosh, and it is more a chance to “break the bread” (or get p*ssed on company money). Still not so sure I’d travel for that, but he is dedicated (& healthy enough to survive)🍻
BREAKING UPDATE: he canned the trip this morning.....wise fella 👍
- @Westv - sounds like you know what to do with those nuts
Good luck!
Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!0 -
We do our "stores" shop at Bookers (my partner used to have a shop but we still have the card). Even for retailers they are limiting sales of toilet rolls, pasta and rice. However on entering the store you have a stack of cheap toilet rolls next to a special offer of Corona beer.2

Just seen the update. Good decision.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 - Boss is off to Paris today (Eurostar) to do “appraisals” with our French teammates. BTW, if there are any aloe vera plants or tubes of gel (with the sun-tan after sun products) left on the shelves, this, mixed with alcohol (two thirds alcohol, one third gel) makes a good alcohol-based sanitiser. Adding a few drops of tea-tree oil or peppermint makes it nicer tooSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far
I also Reverse Meal Plan on that thread and grow much of our own premium price fruit and veg, joining in on the Grow your own thread
