If someone already has a massive gas bill, then they will obviously see a bigger hike in their bills. But then surely, most people who live in big houses can find the extra needed.
Are there really people struggling, or is just a good story for the media?I think....5 -
we were on 3.4p variable for gas and managed to get a 2 year fix on 3.96p with Sainsbury's Energy (EOn) just before the small companies started folding. That rate isn't available now - it has gone up to 9.26p! Standing charge for gas has also gone up from 19.2p/day (our fix) to 37p/day (fix available today).I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

The price cap seems to be about the best you can get these days, about 4p/kwh for gas and 20p for electric with a SC of about 25p/day each. I don't know who's signing up to these fixed rates at double the price!

Although I know exactly where we stand with our tariff, usage and DD, I'm having great fun (not) getting an actual bill for our gas from E.on!! We were due a duel fuel bill end of September, which was never raised.
I've asked 3 times now, and I get sent a revised electric bill... but no gas.
They have all the readings, and have confirmed they have the correct meter registered.
I think the installation of the new meter with 00000 reading has thrown their system into meltdown, despite me providing an up-to-date reading for the old meter, on the day it was removed, and for which I have had a bill.
Customer services is no doubt swamped with all their newly acquired customers now.
☹️How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

Personally, I'm more worried about the knock on inflationary pressures high fuel costs will put on everything!!..yep, I don't think most people have cottoned on to this yet. After a relatively long run of low inflation I suspect we have now entered a period of much higher inflation. eg the Gov have stated that they want businesses to increase wages to replace the drop in universal credit, and they also want the country to be a "high wage" country and I assume this will have to be paid for in increased prices across the board?..probably OK if you are lucky enough to be on an index linked pension?
At least SP is index linked!

I am sure some of the energy companies have in their terms and conditions that even fixed rates can go up if their costs go up beyond a certain point.0
