we stayed for 1 night dinner, B&B on the end of a week in a cottage in the Lakes. Not very MSE (unless you count not staying there for more than 1 night)
I bet they love walkers and their muddy boots!!!

As for a luxury stay in the UK can I suggest Northcote - www,northcote.com
I first went there for the 90th birthday of the person I inherited from and held my own 60th there.

Ah, didn't know it was a B&B. We drove past it when we we're in Norfolk earlier this year. Lovely bit of coast.
However, DH is still traumatised by those narrow roads...that are a bus route!!
"We're never coming this way again" were his words IIRC 🤣😲How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 -

The last time we added any new funds was back at end of March 2021, when their total value was then £180,000.
£20k in 5 months. That cannot continue....brace yourselves!!!!
In other news...
We've been to an English Heritage property today, which was about £25. We took a picnic (good job as the café was really busy)Full Michelin afternoon tea only, please: 22k in FY22, remember?
🤪Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!1 -

We'd read in a couple of reviews that the cafe got really busy, so picnics were recommended (lots of nice tables to sit out at).
You haven't met my DH! He does NOT do queueing!!! And if he does, it will be under duress, and will involve swearing under his breath at "ditherers".
(and we're not in 2022 yet either.....I'm building up to it!!!!)

I hate queuing as well, so I do understand him.Curiously enough, I cycled 80k on Monday and stopped for coffee and fuel (butty and cake 😍) at Belvoir Castle.A superb little cafe in their car park (so you could use it without paying to go into the grounds or castle itself.Lots of people there, a few queuing…but they had a separate queue for anyone who had placed an internet order 😜
Of course I hadn’t - it’s a bit tricky whilst cycling 🤪 - but the 3 people in front were fast enough👍It did mean I ate the cake first - the butty took 15 mins to arrive. Both were very tasty….the last 20km flew past 🚴♂️Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!3 -

You must have been in a "more populous" part of Norfolk if they had buses, try the really rural bits, they haven't seen a bus this century.2 -
We drove from Sheringham to Wells.

We moved up to Suffolk nearly 30 years ago and I was talking to one of the locals and said I would have a 30 minute / 20 mile drive to work. He looked horrified, "never go that far for anything" he said.
The local traffic news should have given us a clue. No mention of accidents on A or M roads, but you could find out whose tractor was blocking what single track lane. OK slight exaggeration but it was different to what we were used to from London and Estuary Essex.
Never regretted it though, great quality of life.2
