Expensive glasses. I spend less than a 1/10th (£30) max on mine. They must be special.
Reactions, thinner lenses, anti glare, varifocals...yep, it adds up!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

    The letter has landed!!

Apparently we can give maturity instructions on line.  A job for Friday when it's raining.

Mine are £130+  I always go with cheap frames, but for whatever reason my lenses are harder to make!

Just checked back on my spreadsheets...wow how time flies.

My glasses are 5 years old!!!!     No wonder my "reactions" are going patchy!!    £299

I did have my eyes checked in late 2019 and my prescription hadn't changed enough to warrant a new pair at the time, and then with "you know what", we're a bit behind in getting re-tested.

We're going to book appointments on-line later this week.

    DH's were £295 in April 18

I was quoted £816 for mine in my regular opticians. £816!!! I went to Vision Express in the end and got a Ray Ban frame and with 25% off (they offered) I paid £496.

My last few have been with GlassesDirect….varifocal, coatings, thin glasses.  Very good with choice, change of mind, etc….
You just need the PD size plus prescription: I got that last with Vision Express, who had taken over the surprisingly efficient and thorough Tesco optician I’d used for years.
Not that they are much cheaper, but the choice in local opticians simply wasn’t great….

But yes, once you want decent varifocals, be ready for £££s to disappear 🤓
    Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!

My glasses were near £400 - almost all on the lenses. The extra light ones are really expensive, but the prdinary light ones make my nose ache.

I support those who are prepared to spend whatever it takes to have comfortable, effective glasses.

I've worn glasses for more than 50 years now and they are the item I wear longest each and every day so thin lenses varifocals are expensive but worth it.
I hate mine intensely and only wear them for a few hours a month when I swap out my extended wear contacts but they are there for emergencies and need to be wearable and suitable to drive in.
