Forced to use BT

There are other suppliers , but they are usually the more expensive ISPs .
You can negotiate with BT for 80/20 FTTP some have .0 -
So, although you are fortunate to have FTTP, unless you need or are prepared to pay for very high speed internet, you are effectively paying more for the same service that people are receiving through FTTC0

That may be so with BT, but what about everyone else on FTTC?
Vodafone are offering 63mb for £23pm over 18 months via FTTC. The best deal I can find on FTTP is with BT at £31.99pm for 50mb over 18 months.
£9 per month more for a slower speed, just because we are lucky to have FTTP0 -

But you're comparing different ISPs. If Vodafone sold FTTP over the Openreach network they would almost certainly sell their 80/20 or less tiers the same as FTTC pricing.
Anyway I suggest you wait for Sky to start selling FTTP (which they should very soon), their 80/20 FTTP tier should be priced at around £30 /m, the same as their 80/20 FTTC offering.0 -
BT ‘list price’ is the same regardless of technology, so for example 80Mb , it doesn’t matter if it is delivered over FTTC or FTTP, it’s the same price, the difference is discounts are available on FTTC , as there is lots of competition, but discounts are not as common on FTTP as there is less competition, and BT is already the ‘value’ provider , as most of the other ISP’s that offer Openreach based FTTP ( like BT) charge more than BT.....that’s just capitalism.
If VM had no competition in an area , or did , but the speeds the competition offered were unacceptable to most, then you wouldn’t get a discount with them either, but if VM had FTTC competition and 80Mb was sufficient, and achievable then they would discount the price to get or keep a customer, it’s not unique to BT0
