Forced to use BT

Hi all,
I moved into a new build property around 18 months ago. The day that I moved in I was told that my broadband provider has to be BT and I’d need to call to set up an account, as they have installed a FTTP (fibre to the premises) box and BT have not opened up the lines to any other providers. I’ve been using BT since then but having spoken to other providers, they have confirmed that BT have a hold on the line and so I would need to remain with them.
I’m planning to call BT to negotiate my current deal but the tricky part is I don’t have the classic threaten to leave / competitor comparison card to play. Has anyone else experienced the same, and any tips for negotiating a cheaper deal?
Thanks!

Go the 4g mifi route. 3 offer unlimited data for £20 pm and with 5G on the way who needs cables.0

Have you tried other suppliers? Is it because it is FTTP?0

BT FTTP is open to other providers .
But many do not want to supply the service so far .
See multiple i am locked to BT posts .0 -
Yes sorry should have said it's FTTP. Other suppliers have said they can't do anything about it.0

Who did you talk to? Bet it was the likes of Sky, talktalk, EE, Plusnet etc. , none of which offer FTTP. They can do something about it, which would be to offer FTTP using the Openreach local loop, but they choose not to for reasons of their own.
Instead, call Andrews and Arnold, or Cerberus networks (other suppliers are available). Neither is cheap, nor do they claim to be, but they can supply FTTP.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

https://www.thinkbroadband.com/packages/fttp-broadband search or similar will work.
Wrt Sky they are due to launch Fttp late this year. I suspect plusnet will follow sometime afterwards to cover off cheap deals.0 -

As already stated, and numerous other posts about the same thing, no one is restricted by BT, or Openreach with regard to alternative suppliers, but if the supplier you would like to use has chosen not to offer FTTP over OR , then that’s their decision, they could if they wanted to offer OR FTTP,they they chose not to, anyone who says you ‘have’ to use BT is wrong, if Sky, TT , and other suppliers are not available it’s because for whatever reason, they don’t want to be available , it’s not because anyone is stopping them.
There are other providers offering service over Openreach FTTP ( around 5 or 6 others company’s) but they are not the budget ( cheap ) end of the market.0 -
I am in the same situation. I tried to change to NowTV. Because my postcode was not available on their online system I had to phone. They told me they cannot touch BT/Openreach equipment installed in my property. I called Openreach who explained that there are seven other companies that offer FTTP but I don’t recognise any of them; they are more expensive than BT and they are mainly for business users, as far as I can establish. I have had to renew my contract with BT. The best offer they could do was £6 a month discount. I can’t even downgrade to a cheaper service as there is basically only one tariff for FTTP broadband and calls. I’ve been stuck with BT and their excessive charges for three and a half years. I was told I could change providers after 12 months. It’s disgraceful. Surely Ofcom should get involved?
Also 4G mifi is not an option for me as mobile service is poor in my property.0 -
But you can change providers .
You say so yourself in this post .
So far FTTP is not going to be cheap cheap .
Mainly due to the higher costs and the fact that the mainstream providers have not taken up the service .
You cannot blame BT for Sky Talk Talk etc not taking up the service .Neither can Ofcom force ISPs to offer a service .0
