  • Just an update from me, kitchen has been fitted now, I have to say I do like the quality, got my quartz for a great price fitted from an independent supplier as well and now just need to decorate...

Definitely glad I went with Howdens...

That's good to hear as we are heading down that path. We got Howdens to price match DIY Kitchens and we are also getting the quartz work surface from a different supplier (and sticking with current appliances).

    HI,

I am in discussion with Howden's to provide some units for utility room in their Greenwich Gloss range comprising of:

    1 x 4 drawer
2 x half height wall units
    1 x 2 drawer pan
    1 x 2 door upright
    2 x base unit
1 x tall upright cupboard (larder height but not pull out)
    2 x 3m worktop
    2 x 3m matching upstand

They have quoted 2600 and say in Oct sale will reduce to 2300. I have looked at DIY Kitchens as a rough comparison and they too quote 2600. So despite all I have read about discounts is this a good deal from Howdens at a 12% discount to 2300???

    Many thanks

To be honest, that seems a lot of money for the Greenwich Gloss; it's a 16mm cut-and-edge cthipboard door with 0.8mm ABS; it's definitely one of their lowest specification doors.

Difficult to be sure without knowing more about the items that you've been quoted for (sizes, worktop materials) but running the numbers from a comparable door, laminate worktops, and guessing the sizes .. I'm getting closer to £1500 (inc VAT)

  • Aye, definitely over the odds on the price for the spec, mate.

    On a comparable spec, I'd be making close to 55% margin on a £2600 sale; 50% on a £2300.

I'm usually happy with 30%, that'd put this quote at £1700 or so.

If I'm reading that right, 3 tall end panels; 4 base end panels, 3 wall end panels and 7.2m of cornice/pelmet; would you need those for the design?
  • Thanks again Marc and apologies for the format the details have come out when I cut and pasted into the post.

I have a meeting this Sat with Howden to go through the quote properly, despite repeated requests for an itemised quote I was told they no longer provide this! But will go through line by line in person.

I will confirm the end panel requirements as you have suggested. Many thanks for the advice.

Aye, our local B&Q stopped doing that too. Makes it too easy to hand their quotes around and get comparisons.

No bother, glad the information was helpful.

Have you looked at just replacing the doors ?
Try appliance direct for ovens hobs hoods dish washers etc alot cheaper than Howdens
  • Thanks Joebob the carcasses are ancient to be honest so they need replacing but noted ref appliances we usually use AO and have found them competitive.
  • Sorry to hijack this thread but is there a generally well respected Quartz kitchen top supplier?
