No.
There will be a sign up to say "alcohol cannot be purchased at this checkout".
Clearly.

If someone chooses not to shop in a store which allows their staff to express their religious beliefs in a tiny way which doesnt inconvenience anyone anymore than a till system error, that is of course entirely up to them. but I am also free to consider it ignorant
"Ignorance" doesnt come into it. We know what these people believe, but I dont think it should allow them to pick and choose which part of their jobs they wish to carry out.
A shop should not be obliged to employ somebody that refuses to carry out aspects of their job just because some make believe person in the sky tells them what they should and should not do.
Football is also a large part of many peoples lives. Its like me (A Leeds fan) applying for a job at JD sports and then refusing to sell customers Manchester United kits.0 -

Agreed, but being a Leeds fan is not a protected charactistic under employment law.
Religion, thankfully, doesnt have the grip on society it used to, however it still has protected rights.0 -
It seems quite anachronistic now, as we don’t protect other people’s strange but fervently held beliefs in a similar way. Anti-vaxxers, flat Earth proponents, chemtrails theorists, these are all deeply held faith systems that the law rightly does not protect. It’s hard to see why being a devotee of Loki is treated differently.Agreed, but being a Leeds fan is not a protected charactistic under employment law.

If being a devotee of Loki is an actual religion, or you can demonstrate you have a religious belief system around that particular god, then theres no reason why it wouldnt be considered a religion in a work environment.
Even just with regards to your common or garden Sun God based religion, there are some 1,000+ religions.
I dont think religion as a protected characteristic in employment law focuses on the Top 3 or whatever.0 -
And neither did your OP ask about DWP sanctions.
It's in the thread title!Good luck with your 'hypothetical' arguments in front of the DWP.
Well if citizens advice is to believed, I might have some luck if I became jobless.

You might have a good reason for failing to meet a work-related requirement if the work-related activity clashes with your religious or conscientious beliefs. You need to provide evidence that your beliefs are sincere and show how they clash with the type of work you've been offered.0 -

I said religious/ethical beliefs, forget religion if you want, the governments stance is that trading in drugs is generally unethical hence why most are illegal.
It's "Heroin" btw.
Yes, yes, spelling. So where exactly in this country to the police routinely beat users? I'm intrigued.
Or did you make it up?0 -

Read the news, you might be more informed that way.
I've got my answer anyway so I'm not going to engage in a fruitless digression. Ethical beliefs on drugs can be taken into account where universal credit is concerned, thanks for all those that made a positive contribution to the thread.

Yes I'd love to, there are thousands of publications in this country, can you just point me to one or two, so I can read the news?
I'm going to suggest you made it up.
I'll keep that in mind for the future0
