I've shopped at a local boutique for many years for my children and now grandchildren. Their 50% off sale started today and I went in and purchased several items.
Some time later I looked at my phone and I havd several missed calls from my daughter and a text saying the shop had been in touch and could I contact them. I went into said shop and the sales assistant said she had under charged me. In previous years they had to enter the 50% off at the end of the purchase and this year the till did it automatically. They wanted to rescan everything, refund me and then charge me again.......... I'm wondering what are my rights?

I'm happy to pay the correct price but I wondering if I have any rights and when I present myself in the shop on Monday I can say "I could have done this … but instead I've come in to pay the correct price what can you do for me as a good will gesture?"

How obvious was the error when you originally paid in the shop?

Surely you were aware that you had had more than 50% discount. Your bill was 25% less than it should have been.

No doubt you would have noticed if they hadn't given you a discount.

Do the honest thing and pay up without expecting any 'goodwill' for being honest.

Would you really demean yourself like this when you have already got a massive 50% discount.

Really, for the sake of a couple o' quid.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

"If a retailer sells you something at the wrong price, the transaction is completed and you have your goods, it can't insist that you pay the extra at a later date." - I believe this quote still stands, legally, based on the sale of goods act. So legally, you do not have to do anything (since that's the nub of your question.)

What you do, or feel you should do morally, may be different, especially somewhere that you have been going for years, small, and will likely continue to shop at.

I spent almost £500 and I usually sit down once I'm home and check my receipt.

Jeez, how grasping are you? Someone working in a shop that has enjoyed your custom and where you've enjoyed their service has made an error and your first thought is what you can gain from it?

You have the right to leave it as it is but there's having rights and being right, the two things being quite different on this occasion.

If you "present yourself" as a decent person, they may volunteer something as a goodwill gesture to thank you for your custom and honesty. If you go in asking for a goodwill gesture you'll just look grasping - which you are.

A not insignificant sum which would have made the error even more obvious. I don't believe you didn't notice it at the time.
