thanks, I will do that.
Do I need to wrap it in cling film so it doesn't dry out or anything?0 -
I would... but I wrap anything in clingfilm.
We had some leftover smoked salmon today (asda smart price oddments) and didn't use it all.
So I clingfilmed it. In it's packet, in the fridge. OH thinks I'm barmy:hello:

Hi
I was at a party last Christmas and on the buffet were some little individual steak pies. I have seen these in Tesco but fancied having a go myself. Has anyone tried to make these? Would a muffin tin work or would they stick and fall to pieces when you tried to get them out? I am thinking of using a regular shortcrust pastry mix and making some beef in gravy to fill the pies.
Would love your thoughts!0 -
not sure about steak pies - but I made individual tiny chicken and mushroom pies for bonfire night! They went down a treat! I used an ordinary size fairy cake tin and made the bottoms from the large cutter and the tops from a smaller one and glued them together with water as for mince pies etc. I did however 'chop' the filling into really small pieces!0

Thanks, I did think after posting that chicken might be easier. I could make a creamy sauce and it wouldnt take as long to cook. Good tip about chopping the meat up really small too.0

Yorkshirelass - as soon as the hungry hordes realised they were chicken and mushroom pies - they disappeared in a blink of an eye!!! lol - they were so moneysaving too! one large breast of chicken and a half punnet of mushrooms (fried in oil and butter) and a half pint of white sauce and a pound of flour to make the pastry and I had, I think, about 40 tiny pies! and filling left over to put on toast next day!0

I would use a well greased muffin tin and M & S Chunky Steak (the one in the tin, it's lovely) have made pies with it before, but not small ones. My daughter and i went to Harewood House a few weeks ago for the Xmas Fair and there was a company from Bramhan called Nova Scotia Farms who were selling the most fantastic warm steak pies. They were about the size of an individual pork pie, i've never tasted one as good. Don't know if you are in Yorkshire, but there are loads of stockists about. If you can't be bothered making them, look them up.0

Thanks Meer53 thats useful info. I have done some research and there is a Deli only a few miles away from me that sells those pies so I might get some in for Christmas. Hubby would love them.
I think I might have a go at making my own for the party I am having though. I need to feed 14 and I have already spent quite a bit so the chicken and mushroom option seems like a good idea.0 -

Try the M & S Chunky Steak, it's like braising steak in quite a thick gravy, might be cheaper than using fresh beef. I've made pies using M & S Chicken in White Sauce too, adding my own mushrooms to make it go further.0
