I always love suggestions of stopping paying the license fee in protest. Diminishing revenue is hardly going to make to BBC do something to cost it money.

The poorest pensioners are protected. Why haven't these pensioners during the boom years prepared for their retirement?
An answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......

If the amount lost from people cancelling, is far greater than the amount gained by scrapping the over-75 free licence, then yes, I believe it may well cause them to rethink the scrapping.

I’m 70 plus years of age, I live on pension credit and I am by no means a supporter of the Tory party and it would be great to see the day when the BBC is financed totally by the public purse ( I accept though that is probably never going to happen).

That been said I’ve no objection to paying a licence, I’d rather not but you can’t have everything in life

Most mornings I listen to an early morning Local Radio program, in the afternoon when I’m childminding the children watch tv, in the evenings I watch the National, International, and local news. Later I’ll probably watch some other programs, all without those annoying ad breaks. I consider what I’ve received good value for money.

Yes I do watch other channels but any developed country should have a PPS (public broadcast service). Yes there are an awful lot of repeats and programs which I think only the brain dead watch. But that is not my concern there is sufficient content on it most days to satisfy me.

    So I’m not complaining

That's fine, but why should you have to pay for the PSB, when you only watch non-PSB channels?

That's like paying TESCO, in order to shop at ASDA.

Simple - because there are some things, such as public service broadcasting, health and education, that benefit the entire country - even those who don't use them.

By your logic, why should I pay into a health system that treats tobacco-related diseases if I don't smoke? It's a crazy argument.
  • A TV company is not comparable to the Health or education services.

I'd say it's more comparable to a football league, and we don't publicly fund football leagues.

IYHO. But you're entirely wrong. Independent unbiased broadcasting is crucial - and the fake news put out by Trump, RT, Putin & Co proves the point.
