  • Sorry guys... work stuff (although getting better)

La E - I have a breadmaker and use it every week. I've a had a cheap £30 Goodmans one which seemed fine, a panasonic that was 2nd hand from my friend, again good. Now I have a Russell Hobbs (I think - let me check when I get home) - again, fine.
It's the pan seal that dies - the waterproof bit where the paddle goes. Some can be replaced.

I would say if you aren't sure if you'll get into using it, either go for a cheap one or get one off Freecycle/Facebook marketplace. There are loads nearly new going for buttons.

The tip I'd say is that you have to be very stern with yourself about not buying bread until you get into the habit. Otherwise, it just lives in the cupboard.

I think I'd love the smell of fresh bread too much and instead of losing this extra 5+ stone, I'd gain that!! :EasterBun

I don't know what happened to our breadmakers. Both were Panasonics & not cheap. Same fault on both of them. (outside guarantee period of course). Nothing seemingly wrong with any of the paddle mechanism, but just not able to turn the ingredients sufficiently to mix them into a dough. I ended up mixing it myself & just using the bread machine to bake it, so couldn't use the timer function at all. I do have more free time than some people, admittedly, so I can accommodate baking all our bread by hand. It's actually a lot less frustrating than machines failing to mix!

Top tips as always from CLF. I would also say to get best use, are you able to leave it out on the work surface otherwise you really have to make an effort to use. I've a kenwood one and I do like it, but it is my second. I didn't realise I couldn't put the pan in the DW :o actually nothing happened to it in DW, but when I put it back in the machine if it wasn't completely bone dry they water got in the mechanism and 1 day it just stopped working. I'd get a cheap one first of FB or the bay and see how you get on.

My other top top is to make smaller loaves a small they're easier to slice (if you want toast or sarnies ) than the big ones. Use an old (clean ;)) pillowcase to keep it fresh :T

    Morning all,

Tidying, decluttering and getting organised here too.

    So far today
    * ys bread for ds1's breakfast with eggs as usual
    * ds2 to free school breakfast club
    * whilst there I dropped of 2 big carrier bags of books the boys have out grown, some coloured sheets of plastic that we got to see if they helped ds2 with his reading - they didn't so school can use them for another child or cut them up for crafts and some large envelopes that come with the rm surveys, I have plenty so they may as well save some money and make use of them. The school were so pleased which made a nice start to the day.
    * gym session done to make the most of my membership, works out at less then 80p a visit :) also refilled my water bottle there as usual!
    * rm survey

    Still to do
    # dentist later for a check up, I've been having some toothache so not expecting a cheap visit :(as expected, hospital referral to have one of my wisdom teeth extracted. Only cost me £14.30 today for check up and an xray as I'm lucky to have an NHS dentist.
    # check banking/update spreadsheet done, mid month not much happening
    # wash a load on the quick wash, done will have to hang inside though as the weather is awful
    # finally get round to making that fish pie from yesterday
    # shop at aldeee from list stuck to the list too, popped into icylnad on the way past to get frozen peas as we weren't keen on the aldee ones, was able to use a love2shop voucher from rm for these though
    # make families lunches for tomorrow - waiting to here from dh about wfh tomorrow or not, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
    # move some books around in the boys rooms now they have a bit more space (all books should fit on their book shelves now I hope, I don't like seeing them piled up next to the eldests bed with a glass of water stood on top of them! so much better now!
    # message a friend to offer her a school top instead of buying another done and another thing that is leaving the house ;)
    # more drawer/cupboard sorting to be done
** using a reclaimed rm envelope, I've send some files to family back up North and used a stamp from doing Rm surveys too
Thats my starter, I've finished my coffee so better get on!

    Take care all.
