Received notice for planning permission

Dear All,
Today we received notice of an application for planning permission to convert the house attached to us into two apartments as well as extending at the rear and the side of the property. Just to note here the back of their house is already extended so we assume this means the extension on top of this.
We are semi detatched and both properties are Victorian (both of us are two bed properties) as is the whole area.
Parking on the road is congested as is (we have had to a few times contact the council over cars parked in front of our dipped drive).
Their property also joins up at a cross roads with the road down the side of their property being a single lane that they want to extend to the roadside which people already speed down.
Please can anyone help us with how to object and object properly.
If you need further information on specifics please let me know or you need more details in certain areas but we are deeply upset as we have two young children and my wife has lived on this street all her life.
Thanks for your time.

Before you decide anything go and look at the plans that have been submitted in support of the planning application, so you have an idea of the building work that is going to take place. If there are computer-generated images of the final result, so much the better.0

You don't need to assume what they want to build. That letter will include a planning reference and a link to the planning portal where you can view the documents associated with the application - meaning the drawings!
I suggest you review that first before deciding to object!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

We have! We are fully objecting to every aspect but we have never done this before,0 -

We have and they want to extend on top of the original extension as well as convert in to two apartments. They want to build out to the edge of the road.0 -
Look at other applications in the area for the transport responses on access traffic and parking.
Problem can be if access to amenities is easy on foot or by bus council policies can hinder if they actively support lack of parking.0 -
You can voice your objections and specify what you object to on the planning portal. I can't really help as I don't live there and can't see what impact it will have.
A planning submission can have many objections and still get passed as what you or anyone else sees as a nuisance maybe a case of NIMBY syndrome
You can look at what guidelines councils have by looking at the portal and see if this application contravenes any of those guidelines0 -

Neither have I! You need advice from posters who have much more experience of these things than I. Wait a couple of hours and you should have plenty of informed opinions about your next step. Bon chance!0 -
Look at your councils own rules concerning minimum parking requirements for properties , it's particularly relevant if the property was built with a garage but it's already been converted ( all the better if you can find no planning permission for it ) . If there's a plan to reduce or remove parking when it's actually needing more parking due to an increase in occupants then that needs mentioning.
Look at the drawings to see if any new windows would look straight into yours particularly if it's a bathroom or bedroom. In that case mention this and suggest that either there is no window or it's frosted glass for privacy
If a conservation area look at requirements for what is allowed or not on your councils web site.
Look online at your councils planning portal at previous planning applications in your postcode , check for refusals and then read why they were refused. See if those reasons fit and use them.
We've successfully blocked a planning application near to me as it is
A conservation area
Loss of privacy as overlooking neighbours bedrooms and bathrooms
Illegal previous conversion of most of the garage ( was a requirement for the original planning when built ) meaning it was way below the council's own guide for properties of the proposed occupation level.
And it breached strict convents on the whole estate which the landowner was still willing to enforce and send in an objection.
He's now attempting to sell said property with a documented illegal garage conversion with refused retrospective planning application. Will be interesting when anyones solicitor does their searchesEx forum ambassador

The drawings only shows three sides - the front the back and the right hand side so the wall that would be on the left side that over looks our property is not showing.0 -

Bear in mind that the application is mostly going to be assessed by the planners against their policies (which you may well be able to find on the planning dept's website), and while objections will be taken into account, they tend not to add all that much to the mix.0
