1year old van from ford dealer - one bald tyre

hi
bought a van, 1year old, 9000 miles, from a ford franchise dealer ~30miles from home (28K spend)
Drove it home and noticed in driveway one of the tyres was different from the others; closer look it is completely bald (illegal bald, not just worn)
Took it to local quikfit (1 mile from home) and theve quoted 160quid to replace
we've told quikfit to go ahead and order it to replace tomorrow
Where do people think we stand on asking the dealer to reimburse us this cost on basis:
- they didn't pick it up on pre-sale inspection
- its dangerous for us to drive back to them in present condition
- it will cost us more time and money to do this
- they don't change tyres; they send offsite to get this done
Yes yes yes we could have checked this before paying/leaving but trusted ford to have done this for us (paperwork we were handed included a X point vehicle pre-sale inspection / safety check blah blah blah)
thanks

I think you would have been in a stronger position if you told the selling garage and given them the opportunity to fix it at their cost.0

agreed but this vehicle is driving round with my 4 kids in it - no time to wrangle
We haven't committed to kwikfit yet as they have ordered the tyre for tomorrow; i've emailed the dealer already proposing we just replace it

Give the dealer a ring rather than email. Emails can easily be ignored.
Try to put Kwik Fit off as £160 sounds a lot for a van tyre. What size is it?0 -

Have a look at some online suppliers who fit locally using partner garages.

Think I would've phoned the dealer rather than emailed but thats just because it might have got your answer quicker. May be useful for you to have whatever in writing which is one thing about email.
Agree that price sounds expensive to me, but I'm not that familiar with the price difference between modern van tyres and car tyres.0 -

Neither did you.

They may have collected.
- it will cost us more time and money to do this
You cannot be sure of that as you never allowed the dealer to give you any options.
- they don't change tyres; they send offsite to get this done

There is a process for dealing with such issues. If you place your self in a position where you either cannot or do not afford the garage that sold the vehicle to you the opportunity to rectify the problem you effectively kiss off a lot of your options for recompense. They probably would have had arrangements with a mobile fitter that could have come to you. If the tyre has been changed already you do not even have the evidence to support your case.0 -

How many seats in a van? Normally two or three but that's five people.0
