Arguably not, however firstly this was not at low speed, it was on the motorway as OP has admitted.

Secondly, you cannot possibly know in advance that the whole journey will be completely dry and perfect conditions. No puddles anywhere? No dirt on the road? No oil/petrol spill? No puddle of washer fluid from a misaligned windscreen washer?

I always pre-inspect my proposed route on foot (with steel toes boots, knee pads, helmet and walking poles) in advance of taking any vehicular journey now. Its the only way you can be sure
Left is never right but I always am.

what a strange world you must live in if your thought process would be that it is more likely I got home, swapped out a good tyre for a bald one in order to try and claim a replacement rather than thinking the dealer just messed up. Im afraid you have this completely the wrong way round and I am sure 99.9% of the population would be surprised if the dealer DIDNT agree to replace the tyre.

The thread was started by me to test thinking on the reasonableness of me potentially having to return the vehicle to the dealer for them to change the tyre

and pre-sale inspections 5 minutes? Absolute rubbish - tyre tread and pressure (if one takes a gauge) in under 5 minutes.

Full body work, spares, screen wash, oil level and quality, brake and steering fluid, hsoe condition, bearings, tracking, brakes (discs and pads), lights, aircon, etc etc etc how long?

Where should a reasonable pre-sale inspection start and stop (as an ordinary member of the public with no mechanical expertise) vs the written guarantee and 160point inspection of an approved manufacturer / dealer

Never did I say that I thought that that was what happened. My point is, look at what evidence you have. Absolutely none. You have very good evidence that you have a bald tire NOW but none that you had a bald tyre when you picked it up, yet there is (admittedly not great) evidence that it was fine when you picked it up. So, had they refused, you wouldn't be in a position to try and force their hand.

Let's put it this way. If you tried to sue the dealer for the cost of the tyre and they made that claim, how could you defend it? You can't.

With regards to what you should test, at a bare minimum anything that wouldn't be covered by a warranty. I hope you understand that tyres are consumables, yes? So not covered by a warranty? So check them.

....... 160point inspection of an approved manufacturer / dealer
:rotfl: Carried out by an apprentice 5 minutes before his lunch break !

If a Ford main dealer can carry out a service on a 2 year old car, fill up with the wrong grade of oil, list the tyres as completely different brand and size, pump the tyres up to 38 psi when they are rated to 31, not tighten up the clutch fluid pipe so the clutch fails (luckily on their forecourt) and rip internal panels off because they could not figure out how to / could not be bothered to correctly remove them I don't hold out much hope of them getting anything else right.

One bald tyre on a car will not make a blind bit of difference to the handling or stopping capabilities of a vehicle at low speed and in the dry.
It will marginally improve both, but don't tell anyone on this forum that.

Well if you want to take that tone, theres always the chance that something appears en route between you doing your inspection and driving the route, so that still isnt satisfactory.

Would a ford main dealer really knowingly lie in written documentation?

    Well, from my experience, yes.

If I hadn't mentioned about the guarantee, I'm sure that they would have replaced the wiper blades, charged me for the new ones and on the worksheet, written down that they were replaced due to being split.

    - gave van once over but didn’t think to even check the tyres given it’s only got 9k on it and these were explicitly ticked in the 160 point pre sale inspection . Also haven’t checked the brakes wipers screen wash battery oil level water level etc

You're a car salesman's dream. They could literally sell you any knackered bag of bolts as long as it looked pretty and had low mileage.
Oh and quick fit is half a mile from home, school run is 3miles round trip

Tone on this thread is so weird ! Why would I lie about anything?

Takes just a few yards driving down the road to get 3 points and a £1000 fine for a bald tyre. The tone isn't weird, you've just spent a load of money without checking what you bought and are happy to drive around on a bald tyre.
