INSURANCE DELAY 2 Weeks for further checks after investigation report ?

So 32 days since car theft and a face to face interview with my insurances investigators the report was reviewed and case handler has decided to extend for another two weeks to perform checks ? While asking what these checks are I got the response saying sorry we can’t tell you ? Bering in mind have already made a complaint about the way the case was handled as it was given to a engineer to value the vehicle which has been done at the validation process Sundenly case went over to a investigator no problems there tho as everything was perfectly clear in black and white and all is genuine as the investigator has stated , now validater told me they will be extending for another two weeks ? For more checks? Really? Also notdeclaring what checks when asked ? Makes no sense to me any ideas ?

Just go with it - my husband's insurance claim took almost a year before it was settled.

It’s just the way they are treating it like so secret and suspicious , honestly it’s disgusting the way they make you feel like they are pointing the finger at you

Sadly people commit fraud and diligent insurance companies will assure themselves claimants are not a fraudster. They are not going to inform anyone of their processes of investigation for obvious reasons..

Whenever you are not happy with your insurance company the route to go down is a complaint in line with their complaints procedure

Then if you are not happy with the reply or they ignore you for 8 weeks you can escalate to the FOS for their adjudication at no cost to you

Without more details it's difficult to say whether the decision to postpone dealing with the complaint until after the claim is settled is unreasonable or not.

Are you talking weeks, months, a year or more to settle the claim?

They aren't suspecting you unless there's something you haven't told the insurers.

They have to explore all avenues.

Manxman in exile they are basically saying they have put 2 weeks in the diary to do further checks and then deal with the complaint ? So I’m guessing they are looking to settle very soon? Exactly I’m unsure what they mean by given it an extra two weeks ? And then deal with he complaint so confusing I called the ombudsman and they have sent a email to the insurance company also explaining my complaint and reasons behind it , they have received investigators report reviewed it I signed a dvla form etc when the investigator come to take a statement so all info got sent over but the case handler basically said in his exact words ‘ I have reviewed the report ‘ I am putting another two weeks in my diary it may be before two weeks to complete and we can deal with the complaint once we have this sorted ‘ that’s his exact words to me I told the ombudsman about this and he was confused and said that is not the correct action to take so he sent the email over to them too !!!

    What checks maybe...

Do you have all the keys? Have they found the car?
Is the car a common vehicle to steal?
Does your story of last using it/parking it ring true?
Did the last service/MOT list lots of items that need fixing?

So many questions they want all the boxes ticked before paying out......

Lol that’s exactly my question what checks !!?? The car is less then a year old 😂 so no mot history the investigator who took my statement even said I see this as genuine due to the amount of theft proven in the area I’ve litreally given them everything , since the report they now have given themselves 2 weeks for more checks ? Makes no sense PLUS I’ve showed proof of funds for the vehicle in question like I said I feel they are dragging their feet a little work this one out guys

Day one of reporting claim : reported claim -got a call
from insurance asking what happened etc

Day 2 : received email to send in keys v5 etc and the next step is to settle

Day 7: called by engineers given a price rejected the price and then engineer agreed to send my valuation over to insurance

Day 9 valuation received ‘Apprently gone to payments department

Day 12 : valuation team get in contact want more information - ( repeated everything to another person again )

Day 16 - no updates still looking at the file

Day 21 - passedclaim to COTSWOLD group investigators 😂

DAY 24 interview statement all goas well

Day 28 - still waiting for report received on 29th day

Day 31 - 32 reviewed report - extending for more checks for 2 weeks 😂 - P.S also said we will deal with the complaint once we get this sorted ????? Reallly!!!

DAY 33- complaint to insurer rang up ombudsman also ombudsman very confused and sent email to insurer
  • So just over a month. Took us longer than that when we had our car written off and the third party basically accepted liability from the outset. Got a cheque from his insurers no problems. But it was over a month and that was clear cut.

Out of interest, what did you do to get the ombudsman involved? I thought the position was as Quentin outlined above.
