Mum becoming homeless due to frozen account.

Hiya,
Yes POA would just solve things but they can’t/won’t assess my dads mental capacity until he is medically fit. The bank manager has said she will come to the hospital with the paperwork if he has capacity. She has also contacted the legal dept to see if anything can be done.
She has said herself because my mum tried to do the right thing it’s triggered all this.
Thank you though. How long did it take to get POA.0 -
Hiya she has a key and could gain access but it’s the layout. It is a terrace. She could not get around in/out of rooms. They have a front room and a kitchen downstairs with a narrow hall on entering and stairs in front. Until now she could walk a few steps with aids. She could be carried in with a hospital bed and hoist in the front room but no loo no getting out.
Mums mental capacity is fine but she is worried, fed up, frustrated and every day seems to get more complicated. We were naive initially and had no idea things could go so wrong so quickly.
Thank you though for your support.0 -
Hiya
This is really helpful. I am going to put this in an email to the social worker today so she gets it 1st thing tomorrow.
Thank you this should make a difference.0 -

If you have over £23 k in capital including savings and property you have to be self funding.
Direct debits can continue in a frozen account.
I’ve been back to the bank with mum as to the bank to beg basically and the answer is still no. Ps we got a wheelchair taxi and the driver helped us.
You sound quite knowledgeable do you have any ideas for the frozen account?
Thanks
The property is disregarded if someone aged over 60 lives there since dad has not "officially" stopped living there , that should deal with that.
Plus, even if dad has moved out, the procedure is that they will want the house sold to get their money and will put a charge on it whilst that happens. They won't kick her out of hospital onto street !0 -
I feel reassured with all the threads she will get somewhere to live.
The money side of things is a nightmare. Mum has full capacity and we just don’t know about dad. Yes you are right I pestered and begged for them to either move or line up a plan of what they wanted to happen. All kinds of things have come to light now. Dad would never allow mum to do anything like that and he would never allow anyone to make a decision on his behalf.
But you are right if you have older parents or you yourselves make plans for the worst. Other wise it makes a difficult time a bloody nightmare.0 -
Thank you for this. I can put this to the Social worker.0

It will take some time to get an LPA for your father because he has to have the mental capacity to agree to it. There are other ways to become an attorney or deputy that don't require this. It will cost money and take time.
Now, Pugsley, can you please answer the question raised in post #35 about your mum's PIP, thank you.0 -

I'm sure you will get everything sorted out, tell your mum not to worry, she has a smart son...Evolution, not revolution0 -
You might try using the 'quote' button, so we don't have to guess which post you are referring to. Try it with post #35.

Hi I've sorted how to answer now. My mum has PIP because she has a disability MS. I am assuming it is PIP it is a disability payment she has a letter for it and evidence money was paid into the account. Please don't tell me there is a problem with this now? Hope this
makes sense.0
