Audi A2 1.4 SE (51 Plate) Cam Belt Snapped - who's liable for cost?

With a car that's 6 years old, regardless of mileage, to ask the manufacturer to repalce a wear and tear item, is laughable.
take the hit and move on.
Have you read your last statement? A wear and tear item.
I would agree had it been used to suffer wear and tear. It's done 32,000 miles, hardly wearing anything.
2 mechanical engineers and citizens advice later all say I'm in the right so I guess we'll see how it turns out. Had the car hit 50k or 60k then I would agree with everyone about it being tough luck, but at 32k I wont simply sit back and "take the hit". £2000 repair bill may be something you don't mind taking on the chin, I certainly don't.0 -

Belts have and always will deterioate with time, that is why they get replaced
Yours wasnt replaced
It wasnt bought from audi
Why the hell would they be liable?
You will waste your money fighting this but hey its your cash but you would probably spend a fair whack just losing
Obviously you're not familiar with small claims process and the costs of such.
Why aren't Audi liable? Audi manufacture the vehicle! How many owners it passes through in the early stages of it's life are irrelevant. They have a duty of care when they sell the vehicle on.0 -
Good luck Mr Friendly. Let us know how you get on, even if it is a bad outcome. It will help others in a similar situation decide whether or not to fork out the small claims court fees.0

There's no need for that. See the block to the right....Pls be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.0 -
Mr F I dont see how you have a claim as Audi include this item for the A2 1.4 as a service item in their 96000km OR 72 month service schedule, as the part failed at 71 months do you really think you have a claim for it lasting four weeks less then the service schedule ? My own A4 which is a 2.0i petrol has the belt change at 180000km or 72 months ?
Good luck, you will need it.0 -
I get the feeling that Mr Friendly is under the impression that anyone who disagrees with him is wrong.Gone ... or have I?0

To be honest I think the way people instantly take the !!!! out of new users on here and think it's alright to do so is terrible and a sad reflection on the way this forum has gone. I may disagree with people but I have not resorted to personal attacks, unnecessary sarcasm or down right abuse yet others feel it is perfectly acceptable to do so.
If it helps you and your band of shallow minded thinkers sleep better at night then please feel free to continue. If you have some genuine helpful input whether or not it is of the same opinion as my own and doesn't involved abuse, sarcasm or general !!!! taking then please feel free to share it.
I guess that would be too difficult for you though.0 -
I think the point is that if Audi's recommendations on cam belt changes has been followed (which I'm not sure if it has in this case) then Audi has been negligent should the cam belt fail whilst following their recommendations.0
