Lift not working at Torbay Hotel

Shearings is part of a company now called SLG Specialist Leisure Group so you will need to send any correspondence Letter or E Mail to them. Don't just ask for compensation, make a case telling them now not having use of of a lift effected you and your holiday. Ask for a Specific sum for example £100 a person, otherwise they will probably come back with a derisory offer of say £25 off your next Shearings holiday. Yo can always come down but never increase the same you require to settle .I also agree you have a good case for some compensation.
Whilst I agree you should be specific about what you want from this situation if addressing to Sherings, expecting £100 pp to me sounds like an unreasonable money grab. I doubt the hotel even gets that for the room and board. A £25 voucher is more in line with what I would expect you would get in this situation.0 -
Exactly the same thing happened to us a couple of years. The hotel found us a room at a nearby better hotel and paid for it. There is no reason why shearing could not have done the same. they probably hoped nobody would create too much of a fuss. I certainly believe you are entitled to ask for part reimbursement and having no lift meant you could not go up and down to your room as often as you wished because of having to climb the stairs. A lift was advertised so is should have been working. Perhaps taking 24 hours to repair is unfortunate but manageable anything longer is unacceptable. An offer of a transfer to another Shearing hotel in a different resort like Paignton is not what you want to hear. You booked to stay in Torquay near the centre and that where you should be placed. There was probably nothing the hotel itself could do without permission from their head office. Go ahead and pursue you claim. We agree £25 is nothing like enough. You only have to look at what airlines have to pay if they are unable to fulfil their obligations for technical difficulties.!!!0

We returned home yesterday from the Torbay hotel and the lift was still not working after 6 days. We were told it had only been installed new in January but the lift company did not have the required part available. Shearings had office were dealing with the matter and the hotel itself could do no more. We were encouraged to write and complain to Shearings as having no lift was dire and meant we had keep climbing the stairs to a bare minimum every day which was far from ideal. We will be requesting a partial refund of £80 a person. No offer was made to let is stay in another hotel of the same standard or higher in the centre of Torquay. Obviously Shearings did not want to carry the cost.0

But youve turned down the offered hotel that would make it easier for you.it could well be said the company tried to accommodate you and you refused.

Does this not make your argument less convincing.

I would disagree.
Being offered a hotel in a different town is not accommodating them.(There is a world of difference between Torquay and Paignton)
For someone with disabilities or elderly a lift is an important part of their stay.
Hotels recognise this and many state things like 'no lift access' to certain rooms.0 -
As stated previously we chose this hotel because of its location in Torquay. We did not want to do Paignton and that is not for what we paid . The only acceptable solution would have been for Shearings to offer us alternative accomodation at a hotel or the same standard for higher with the same facilities on a half board basis in a non Shearings hotel in the immediate vicinity. We still believe we have a strong case for a decent sum of compensation. If there had been a working lift we would have been quite happy with hotel but the stairs were very steep and therefore we only when to our room as little as possible because of the climb. We also notice there have been some reviews on Trip Advisor regarding this subject so we are not alone at being very dissatisfied with this issue0

The hotel didn't deliberately cause the lift to break.
If it was that important the op would have moved hotel.0 -
There is something about this thread I don't like. I don't like the distributions of the THANKS buttons for a start. Something not quite right here. hashtag car bonnet0
