Lift not working at Torbay Hotel

Its a Shearings hotel but OP is doing self drive
Still part of the Shearings holiday group which are not known for expensive hotels. When you look at the prices for self drive holidays and Coach holidays you shouldn't expect luxury. We often travel with Leger who offer a better form of travel depending on what you pay, unfortunately you still get exactly the same hotels, meals and excursions that their cheaper travel provides. I've yet to find any Hotel either in the Uk or Europe that have more than one lift (if you're lucky) when traveling on this type of holiday.0 -
Was a lift part of the holiday contract?0

The point I am trying to make is that Shezrings ought to have contacted customers before they left home to advise them about the lift, given them the opportunity to cancel before travelling with a full refund. The lift is still not working 5 days after it broke down. The hotels description does state it has a lift. The majority of guests at Shearings hotels are in the 65 plus age group so it is a real big issue for anyone with walking difficulties or other health problems for them, a working lift is essential as they are unable to climb 4 floors of stairs.0

So why haven't you accepted the Paignton hotel, if its so difficult.0 -
Paignton is horrible though! Torquay is preferable in my experience. You shouldn't have to move when you specifically chose to be in Torquay0

You might be better asking to transfer this to the consumer board because the thread seems to be going round in circles.0

Torbay caters for everyone in my opinion. Torquay for the younger generation, Paignton for families with young children and Brixham for the older generation.
Unfortunately Brixham has few hotels suitable for coach type holidays where Torquay has.0 -
My sympathies are with the OP. If you book a hotel in Torquay you expect to stay at that resort and not another. I have been To Paignton and it has zilch appeal to me.It would appear the hotel did not have time to you know about the malfunctioning lift before you left home and there was very little they could do about it. If it had been out of order for 24 hours then perhaps that would be disappointing but acceptable. However it appears it has not been working for 5 days and still counting. You complaint should be with Shearings and not the hotel Shearings should have stepped in and put pressure on the lift manufacturer for an urgent repair. If they had managed to contact you prior to your departure from home, then you would have choice, probably including one to cancel and get a refund, and in that case you would have little chance of receiving anything back.. However as you were not informed before you left home, In my opinion you should be entitled to some form of compensation for not having use of a working lift as advertised. it obviously would have a had a negative effect on your holiday.. I would contact someone at senior level at Shearings asking for a decent compensation.Good Luck0

Shearings is part of a company now called SLG Specialist Leisure Group so you will need to send any correspondence Letter or E Mail to them. Don't just ask for compensation, make a case telling them now not having use of of a lift effected you and your holiday. Ask for a Specific sum for example £100 a person, otherwise they will probably come back with a derisory offer of say £25 off your next Shearings holiday. Yo can always come down but never increase the same you require to settle .I also agree you have a good case for some compensation.0
