I have a friend who does the same job, in the NHS, however noone likes a non clinical person telling them what they should or shouldn't be doing. The police must be kind of the same i guess.

  • Im a bit nervous maz about saying what I do, I strayed onto the discussion thread one night and mentioned that in my role I sometimes work for the health visitors, they totally attacked me and said that I was lying and that I was illiterate and could not be educated to degree level.
I was devestated they said I was not qualified and I am very proud of my registration, someone even said I should be struck off so im always a bit wary of saying what I do now.
but on the DFW board im amongst friends so I dont mind. (sorry im just still hurting from it all)

My godson is 13 now, he was about 8 when his mum finally got a diagnosis (had to fight for it, education labelled him as a disruptive child). He is doing great now he has the right support in place. He is highly intelligent but takes every word you say literally, he doesnt like crowds, doesnt like to be touched and doesnt like loud noise if he comes to visit he has to take something home with him (he brings it back). He is funny about food likes certain colours and has them seperate on his plate. He is a great lad and I enjoy his company very much.

Ryan is VERY literal too, sayings really confuse him! He doesn't understand sarcasm, can't read between the lines, can't read other peoples emotions, funny about food, very loud, talks 'at' you, obsessive, hates changes to routine, doesn't cry tears, problems with toilet training, angry outbursts.....LOTS of things.

But he's amazing, bright, brave, funny and totally adorable, and I think the world of him.

The girl I'm starting to see now runs one of them. I have nothing but respect for those guys.
