I'm not allowed to put mine up till after Sinterklaas (Feast of St Nicholas, which is a *huge* holiday in the netherlands - my OH is dutch) which is on 4/5 Dec. So somewhere around 6-9 Dec for the tree. I also put a green display up on the candle sconces in the living room, and that i do closer to christmas because otherwise by the time christmas rolls around they look a bit sad.

Probably Thanksgiving (next Thursday). OH is American and it's a day we both have off together. He cooks turkey etc and I put up the decorations. The cats get interested in the turkey (one was yelling for some BEFORE we put it in the oven a couple of years ago), and they help me by investigating the boxes of decorations. Waiting to see what 6 month kitten thinks of trees and baubles. Knew I should have bought a tree skirt!
Now I have a good reason for spending the early part of the week on housekeeping!0 -

normally I put the tree up 12 days before christmas (which was a family tradition) but this year I am going to start a new routine and put them up on christmas eve...DS doesn't like christmas much...(21)...too many family member's dying near xmas...but I said to him just wait til you have a family of your own then you'll know...sometime's I feel sad that people that should be here to celebrate are not...but we can't all live in the past WE have to carry on and just get on with life...but seen as thing's are still bothering him I'll wait til christmas eve this year...new routine and it might be that in his family when I am gone...you never know...MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE...:xmastree:
Pls be nice to all MSer's
There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.
Tomorrow never come's as today is yesterday and tomorrow is today
MERRY CHRISTMAS FELLOW MSer's:xmastree:0 -
Usually we put them up mid- December as we always want to have a really good tidy beforehand, this year is the first in the new house and we can't wait - the wallpaper here is red & green, and there's beams, and dark wood window frames, so it feels like it's going to be great for the really traditional look, and we've been buying new decorations to fit in with that.
On December 1st we're going to the Dickensian Christmas at Rochester, which is a very historic place anyway - cobbled street and tiny alleys with leaning houses, if you know what I mean - and the Dickensian Christmas has lots of stalls, and mulled wine, and acrobats and jugglers and general street entertainers, bell-ringers, at dusk there's a candlelit procession by everyone in Dickensian costume (which always includes a Scrooge, and a wonderful Ghost of Christmas Past, and always some kids dressed up all proudly to bring a tear to your eye! Then there's a carol service in front of the cathedral with a snow machine blowing too which feels rather nice - there's a 'traditional' funfair and craft fair by the castle as well - more carousels and hot chestnuts rather than flashing lights and dodgems - it's so lovely and is certainly one the things I look forward to every year.
When we get home we'll whisk the 3 year old straight to bed, have a few (more) glasses of mulled wine, and get the decs out, probably putting most of them up on the Sunday so he can help, as he's *really* excited this year & really starting to learn about Father Christmas and so on - this year, I really, really can't wait!0
